Job Description

Mission Community Hospital, a 145-bed acute care facility located in the San Fernando Valley and known for its Behavioral Health Unit, is seeking full-time Mental Health Workers for the locked unit. The Mental Health Worker assists the licensed nurses in providing patient care in the mental healthcare setting. Specific areas of responsibility include baths, toileting, nutritional support/assistance, rounding, monitoring of patient vital signs/pain, ambulating/transferring/transporting, setting up for group therapy, and observing/reporting patient behaviors, ensuring safety/security, monitoring for contraband. He or she shall demonstrate the highest level of commitment to delivering the highest quality of care in a compassionate manner to the mentally ill.

*Insures that all Patient Rights are followed and adhered to.
*Demonstrates leadership skills in de-escalation, seclusion, or restraint episodes following all hospital policies and procedures.
*Obtains and documents, vital signs, height, weight, intake, and output accurately and reports all findings to nursing personnel. Consistently alerts RN to changes in vital signs, inadequate intake, or changes in the patient's condition.
*Demonstrates basic knowledge of mental health disorders.
*Demonstrates the use of critical thinking skills and problems solving abilities in coordinating patient care under license supervision.

*Able to perform routine patient-care activities; physical strengths to assist patients in ambulating, turning in bed, and transferring in and out of bed or wheelchair.
*Good communication skills.
*Able to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
*Ability to understand and use medical terminology.
*BLS, MAB or PART/CPI training, Fire Card
