Job description
Grounds Tractor Driver operates medium to large tractor equipment used in mowing, trimming grass, or moving dirt. Performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance, care, and modification of grounds and landscapes which includes the operation of electrically powered and gasoline-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines, and the use of small hand and power tools or equipment in planting, cultivating, and trimming grounds and landscaping. Also performs preventative maintenance on grounds keeping equipment tools and makes minor repairs (within demonstrated capability) as directed.
To be successful as a tractor driver, you should have good concentration skills, excellent hand-eye coordination, as well as active listening skills.
Pay & Benefits
$23.42/Hr. Tractor Driver (Current Department of Labor Wage Determination Rate) - valid driver’s license required.
$20.23 grounds maintenance worker (Current Department of Labor Wage Determination Rate)
Health & Welfare benefit ($4.93/Hour) pays for health insurance after 60 days of employment. Optional dental & vision – cost is out of pocket.
11 Paid holidays
Paid sick leave 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
2 weeks of paid vacation per year after one year of employment
401k matching after one year of employment, up to 4%
Paid Life insurance: $50,000 after 90 days of employment
Longevity stipend with Board of Directors approval
$50 yearly PPE allowance for boots
Schedule
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with a half-hour lunch. (35-40 hours a week).
Saturdays are sometimes required during peak season (April-June).
Potential for seasonal layoffs Oct-March. Also potential for winter work and advancement for high-achieving employees.
Requirements
A Grounds Tractor driver will perform preventive maintenance on tractors to ensure they are safe, clean, and operable.
Must obtain/maintain NASWI flight line license – within 30 days from hire date.
Must be able to talk on a handheld radio to Airfield Tower while on flight line.
Must abide by all NASWI Airfield rules and regulations.
Must operate tractors safely and efficiently and basic knowledge of multiple size tractors.
Some prior experience operating tractors, lawn mowers, and trimmers preferred, but not required.
Ground Maintenance Worker will perform preventative maintenance on push mowers and trimmers.
Performs mowing, trimming, edging, mulching, aeration, fertilization; weed and brush control; flower bed services, tree and shrub pruning, debris and ditch cleanup.
Maintains all grounds and road shoulders in specified areas.
Picks up and removes all rubbish, debris, and trash, which includes but is not limited to rocks, paper, pine, limbs and other portable objects.
Trims and prunes shrubs, ground covers, native plants, and trees planted in improved grounds according to their natural growth habit for proper health, attractive appearance in the appropriate season.
Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
Ability to pass NAS Whidbey Background check at time of hire and for duration of employment. Felonies will prohibit base access.
Valid driver’s license and maintain throughout employment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain approval to operate a vehicle by New Leaf’s insurance carrier.
Main Responsibilities
Remain alert and aware while driving or servicing tractors.
Always maintain appropriate speed limits.
Report any faults/alarms to Project Manager/supervisor and or maintenance personnel.
Perform pre/post inspections of tractors and implements.
Be able to attach and unattached multiple implements to tractors.
Make sure all implements are attached and are working properly.
Be aware of all surroundings or obstacles on the airfield.
Performs mowing, trimming, edging, mulching, aeration, and fertilization; weed and brush control; flower bed services; tree and shrub pruning; debris and ditch cleanup.
Maintains all grounds and road shoulders in specified areas.

Main Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outside up to 8 hours a day, including standing, walking, and working on steep inclines such as hills and un-level ground.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. / push and pull up to 70 lbs.
Must have good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and a good sense of balance.
Once trained, must be able to operate a 12lb trimmer for up to 6 hours.
