Basic Role Description:


The role of the Logistics Inbound Coordinator is to facilitate the timely routing of inbound freight to Merchants Foodservice Distribution Centers in MS, AL and SC. This position will use computerized software programs and associated technical utilities in the generation of optimized routing and supply chain business solutions. This is accomplished primarily through accurate and efficient execution of the following work processes:

  • Routing of inbound freight in the most efficient way possible and under constant time, financial and accuracy constraints. Adhering to established procedures, protocols, and commitments are a key component of the position.
  • Leveraging Merchants qualified carrier/ broker relationships to achieve an efficient and profitable outcome for each load of freight tendered.
  • Performing analysis of all delivery lanes using established pro formas to ensure profitablility and recommend improvement strategies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


Learn and become an expert user of appropriate software (AS400, Retalix Transportation Optimization TMS System, Retalix Dock Scheduling Platform) to perform job routing functions while maintaining profitability targets and regulatory compliance.

Interact with approved carrier base and participate in negotiating optimal carrier rates for the company to maintain profitability targets.

Secure pickup and delivery appointments as needed for managed lanes.

Recommend business strategies to maximize profitability.

Work closely with N&T Development Manager and company purchasing department to manage existing lane movement, uncover and add new business opportunities and optimize all inbound freight spend.

Prepare various reports as needed when requested by management.

Maintain accurate data and parameters in all software programs and utilities.

Occasionally required to work on projects and reports not directly associated with load dispatching



Internal:  DC transportation and warehouse/ receiving personnel, Corporate and DC placed Purchasing personnel, N&T Logistics Accounting and Administrative Assistant, Director of Logistics

External: Transportation brokers/ carriers, Foods supplier/ vendor representatives, 3rd party warehouse personnel.



Education/Training:   Minimum High School diploma, College degree preferred but past industry experience will be considered in lieu of College

Related Experience:   2-5 years analytical experience in the transportation/distribution/production/wholesale industry. (Experience in the food distribution/wholesale industry a plus). Previous computer based software routing experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  Must be able to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.  Must possess verifiable intermediate computer skills data entry, general report generation, spreadsheet design, data mining & manipulation, mainframe downloads.  Must have an intermediate level working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (advanced preferred), Word & PowerPoint. Intermediate math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide).  Possess ability to resolve a variety of issues of fairly non-routine nature with some independence.  Ability to work scheduled hours and any required overtime. Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment. Must possess strong analytical skills. Must be a Goal-oriented, flexible team player with a high degree of business acumen who is able to quickly grasp and understand complex concepts and operational capabilities then analyze and interpret ideas into a logical strategy.


Must be physically able to hear and follow instructions from the Director of Logistics and other company Management as needed.  Must be physically able to handle varied responsibilities of complex job functions and assignments.  Must be able to mentally and strategically deal with drivers, carriers and all external and internal stakeholders on a daily basis.
