VP of Early Reading

ABOUT THE POSITION

Company is seeking a seasoned leader to take its promising Early Reading Matters ("ERM") program to the next level of growth and impact. Early Reading Matters is a comprehensive 3-year professional learning program that develops K-2 teachers' expertise in improving their students' literacy. Together with teachers and school leaders, Company focuses on analysis of student needs, implementation of research-based reading strategies, and monitoring student progress.

Reporting to the CEO and overseeing a team of 20, the Vice President of Early Reading ("VPER") will lead ERM into its next phase of growth and innovation, scaling to 80+ schools in NYC, developing a blended learning model, and building an alumni network. As a key member of Company' senior leadership team, the VP of Early Reading will build upon ERM's successes and ensure its ongoing financial sustainability.

Specific responsibilities include:

Program Vision and Leadership

  • Set and drive a vision for the growth and sustainability of Early Reading Matters
  • Ensure high-quality execution of Early Reading Matters' work in partner schools
  • Oversee ongoing analysis and evaluation of program data and hold the organization accountable to outcomes; manage evaluation process and outside evaluators
  • Lead continuous improvement processes to evolve the program model based on data and learnings
  • Lead the evolution of the onsite professional development model to a blended coaching model in collaboration with a content team, including an E-Learning instructional specialist
  • Stay informed on current research related to the language development and reading ability for children ages 0 to 8

Partnership Management

  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders in early reading initiatives in NYC and beyond, including principals, superintendents, individual donors, and foundations
  • Communicate program effectiveness and key learnings to all stakeholders including funders and community members
  • Cultivate and manage partnerships with other organizations and groups committed to all children reading proficiently by third grade

Financial Sustainability

  • Create short and long-term financial plan for the sustainability of ERM in collaboration with the Controller and CEO
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Director of Development, and Director of Sales and Marketing to increase revenue contributions to the program
  • Closely monitor revenue and costs for the program and make strategic decisions to ensure its financial sustainability
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue a range of revenue-generating opportunities for Early Reading Matters

Organizational and Team Leadership

  • Serve as a key member of Company' senior leadership team, contributing to the development and refinement of organizational strategy and goals
  • Act as liaison to the Board of Directors on ERM, ensuring board members are informed of program learnings, outcomes, and future needs
  • Manage a team consisting of a Field Director (who manages 15 coaches), Project Manager, Content Specialist, and eLearning Designer, supporting their growth and learning

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership role
  • Track record of success in designing and implementing large-scale, complex programs
  • Deep expertise in program design and management
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of the operating context of elementary schools
  • Expertise in PreK-6 literacy strongly preferred
  • Excellent relationship building and partnerships management skills, with the ability to work effectively with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Experience analyzing financial models and developing program budgets strongly preferred
  • Program-specific fundraising experience strongly preferred
  • Passion for Company' mission and the ability to thrive in a collaborative and evidence-based environment
