Job Description

Job Purpose

In this position the Technical Sales Representative will be responsible for developing marine commercial and leisure sales through guided sales activities and application success, as well as ensure that Humphree products are installed properly to maximize uptime, decrease the possibility of harm to person(s) or property, and to aid in the reduction of warranty costs.
This position is under Humphree USA, a division of Volvo Penta.  Volvo Penta's headquarters is in Chesapeake, Virginia.  The local office for Humphree USA is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Core Responsibilities
  • Professionally and proactively conduct consultative marketing and sales calls, engaging all supporting disciplines necessary and be adept at identifying key decision-makers within customer network
  • Ensure that the sales, applications engineering and, when required, service-related efforts contribute to sales development at assigned accounts
  • Assume primary responsibility for training designated OEM personnel in the installation and set-up of Humphree products
  • Recommend product and product quality improvements to Humphree Engineering as determined or as suggested by assigned OEM accounts
  • Provide management with contact reports and bi-monthly schedules via Microsoft Outlook Calendar
  • Participate in boat/trade shows, dealer Meetings, magazine testing, and promotional initiatives as required
  • Interface with Humphree dealers and their customers as required
  • Provide training on Humphree warranty procedures, parts return, parts lookup workshop methods and maintenance to Humphree Dealers, OEM customers, fleet customers and end-users
  • Investigate customer products complaints and make on-site decisions to resolve them expeditiously and appropriately
  • Follow all safety and environmental rules and guidelines
  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical proficiency
  • Achievement of quantitative objectives within assigned area of responsibility as assigned by the VP
  • Perform other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management and deemed vital to the achievement of the Humphree business plan
Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret technical specifications
  • Experience with CAD a plus
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.  A self-directed self-starter
  • High energy level, comfortable performing multiple assignments in conjunction with day-to-day activities
  • Background in electronic systems a plus, as well as ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Boat fabrication and modification experience a plus
  • Familiar with Windows-based computer operating systems
Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate technical degree; or equivalent of education and experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the marine field (Service and/or manufacturing

  • Marine applications engineering
  • Experience with/understanding of Marine Propulsion systems
