About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Strategy & Planning Consultant to join the Strategic Payments Partnership team. This is a dynamic team of high performing individuals is focused on cultivating deep relationships with the most compelling companies in the payment ecosystem. Our mission, as part of the Enterprise Payment Strategy Group is to methodically identify, develop, and execute on ideas that better serve our customers, drive growth, and reduce expenses.

The successful candidate will be a high-energy, self-starter who will tenaciously cover the emerging payments sector to help Wells Fargo identify and build relationships with promising young payment companies and work to deepen relationships with select unicorns. In this high impact role, you will pursue strategic partnerships, investments, and alliance opportunities with the founders and companies that are changing the future of payments.

As part of the larger Strategy, Digital, and Innovation Group, the Strategic Payment Partnership team is empowered to be creative and drive new innovations. Accordingly, we are excited to meet candidates with a strong understanding of payments, the competitive marketplace (including Fintechs), and a passion for creating the future.

In this role, you will:
  • Cultivate Relationships: Proactively engage with stakeholders across the fintech ecosystem to build lasting relationships with the firms, founders, VCs, consultants, etc.
  • Source New Opportunities: Expand deal flow so that Wells Fargo sees the most promising founders and impactful companies in the payments space. Position Wells Fargo as a preferred partner for innovations and new business opportunities.
  • Build Market Intelligence: Build and maintain an understanding of the emerging payments marketplace, key trends, notable companies, and strategic insights. Create executive deliverables including strategic assessments, company profiles, market overviews, and growth maps.
  • Create Opportunities: Work closely with the operating lines of business to deeply understand their needs and pair them with companies that can help them improve customer experiences, growth revenue, streamlines expenses, and make more informed decisions. You'll work with the debit card, credit card, merchant services, and treasury management teams.
  • Assess Ideas: Assess partnership opportunities to prioritize the best opportunities. Determine where market demand, partner alignment, and ability to execute are highest.
  • Work Across the Bank: Collaborate closely with the client coverage teams from Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) and Commercial Banking (CB) to ensure alignment and visibility across all enterprise activities - especially with our clients.
  • Communicate: Establish and maintain a rigorous process that ensures that internal stakeholders are coordinated, partner capabilities are well understood, and regular communication is occurring.
  • Advocate Aggressively: Act as the internal champion for concepts that will have a meaningful impact on Wells Fargo's customers and shareholders and provide our partners with a fair return on their contribution.
  • Push For Decisions: Work hand-in-hand with the lines of business to pitch new ideas and get timely decisions. Pat of the decision process may include due diligence and contract negotiations with partners.
  • Lead: Manage cross-functional deal teams composed of product, marketing, digital, finance, risk, and legal experts.
  • Drive Execution: Champion the partnership projects during the ideation, decision, build, and launch phases. Post launch, you may also work to maintain the partnership in conjunction with the lines of business.
Required Qualifications, US:
  • 7+ years of Strategy and Planning experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of business development experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • A BS/BA degree or higher
  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills
  • Strong prospecting, sales, negotiation, and influence skills
  • Ability to effectively assess stakeholder, partner, or client needs while consulting, building solutions, and developing processes
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem solving techniques
  • Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with senior business leaders to gain commitment to accomplish business goals
  • Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective business partnerships with all levels of team members
  • Ability to lead and operate collaboratively, execution focused, and results oriented
  • Strong project management, vendor management, and research skills
  • Ability to make timely and independent judgment decisions while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment
  • A Masters of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Management consulting experience at a top-tier consulting firm
  • 3+ years of business development experience
  • Experience with Fintech in the following industries: technology, media and telecom
Job Expectations:
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Pay Range

$138,500.00 - $287,600.00 Annual
