RN - Infusion - Part-Time

The Infusion Nurse provides direct patient care by following established standards and practices. The Infusion Nurse functions as the primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians as well as assisting the physicians and staff in coordinating patient care.
***Please Note: This position is Part-Time (2 days per week)***
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care through patient assessment, treatment administration, access device management, side effects and symptom management and monitoring response to treatment regimens;
  • Educates patient and family members regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, side effects and symptom management;
  • Responsible for ensuring patient is scheduled according to treatment regimens;
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information;
  • Serves as a conduit for education follow up and reinforcement between the physicians and nurse clinician;
  • Organizes/maintains exam rooms/treatment suite inventory, supplies and materials;
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards and practices;
  • Performs all required documentation;
  • Supports Come Home initiative and its staffing requirements;
  • Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties may include:
  • Performs aseptic admixture of chemotherapeutic and other medication agents for treatment administration;
  • Utilizes and evaluates acuity data, as needed;
  • Assists in cost effective management of treatment administration;
  • Utilizes current research findings to support and improve nursing practice and patient care;
  • Supports and/or participates in research protocols;
  • Initiates new ideas and projects that enhance patient care

Required Education and/ or Experience:
This position requires an active RN License for the state(s) of practice.  Bachelor’s degree (B.S.N.) from a four-year college or university preferred; Associate degree acceptable.  Experience with electronic medical record systems a plus.  Oncology certification to be obtained within 3 years of start of employment.  Must maintain certification throughout duration of employment.  Must obtain chemotherapy/biotherapy administration certification within 1 year of obtaining employment.  Must maintain chemotherapy/biotherapy administration certification throughout duration of employment.                                                                                                                                               
Physical/ Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to assist patients, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The position requires regular lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental/ Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Patient care and non-patient care environments requiring frequent contact with office staff and physicians. Work may be stressful at times.  The employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and personal protection is required.
Hazardous Drug Warning:
Healthcare workers who prepare or administer hazardous drugs or who work in areas where these drugs are used may be exposed to these agents in air or on work surfaces, contaminated clothing, medical equipment, patient excreta, or other sources. Studies have associated workplace exposures to hazardous drugs with health effects such as skin rashes and adverse reproductive events (including infertility, spontaneous abortions or congenital malformations) and possibly leukemia and other cancers. The health risk is influenced by the extent of the exposure and the potency and toxicity of the hazardous drug. Potential health effects can be minimized though sound procedures for handling hazardous drugs, engineering controls and proper use of protective equipment to protect workers to the greatest degree possible.
