DFMEA Engineer

Position Summary:

The DFMEA Engineer will work with PDC (Product Development Commercialization/ APQP)  teams to ensure timely completion of FMEA activities while leading and managing multiple teams in the use of AIAG/VDA FMEA Methodology and SCIO at a divisional level. This highly visible position will also assist with complex non-routine issues, and provide leadership in developing and implementing corrective actions, and special project teams. In addition, the DFMEA Engineer will have as follows:

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage multiple teams in AIAG/VDA FMEA Methodology  and SCIO throughout the division
  • Manage others in FMEA feedback loop tasks and provide monthly reporting to all interested parties.
  • Lead multiped teams in SCIO software package
  • Manage and lead in the creation of the DFMEA for new PDC projects
  • Lead others in select tasks of Advanced Product Safety Governance (APSG) process.
  • Lead DFMEA flow-downs as required.
  • Lead D/P-FMEA audits and manage all related actions.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and manufacturing process for related devices.
  • Participate in audits (Mistake Proofing, VDA, IATF, Poka-yoke, etc.).
  • Support Quality Imperative projects and participate on other special projects as assigned.
  • Benchmarking of FMEA Engineer supplemental tools and AIAG/VDA/Bendix FMEA methodology with similar/interfacing on a divisional level.
  • Participate in tool benchmarking, method benchmarking, and networking from third-party sources.


  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of SCIO and AIAG/VDA FMEA Handbook a must.
  • Proficient with D/P-FMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, SPC, and MSA – AIAG Modules
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of statistical and Six-Sigma methodologies
  • Working knowledge/skills in reading Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) drawings
  • In-depth knowledge of project management tools & techniques.
  • Mastery of Global FMEA Documents
  • Strong Proficient knowledge of MSA and attribute studies
  • Experience in process capability studies (Gage R&R and DOE) a plus


  • 7+ years of quality experience in the automotive/truck industry with an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or Tier 1 supplier is required
  • Proven experience implementing Project Management methodologies


  • Demonstrated high level of energy, enthusiasm, and optimism, as well as a sense of urgency and passion for excellence
  • Background of working in a team environment with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving skills
  • Project management, follow-up, and team skills essential
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the department as well as with external/internal customers; proven ability to build long-term customer relationships
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple assignments and multi-task
  • Flexible – can adapt to frequent priority changes & substantial role diversity


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Science/Industrial Management or related course of study required.
  • Black or Green Belt, REDX Statistical Problem-Solving certified a plus
