The Director of Pharmacy Product Strategy is part of Optum’s new Direct-to-Consumer business team creating a curated consumer health experience through eCommerce platform, Optum Store. This team sits at the intersection of health care and retail to create affordable access to health care products for all consumers, regardless of health insurance status. The desired candidate for this position must act as a hands-on builder and exemplify grit and the indomitable spirit to see things through as the groups’ activities lead them into uncharted territory. The role is a mix of prescription drug pricing strategy and traditional product management. The role will report to the VP of Pharmacy Product Management.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within United States as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Pharmacy Product Owner and Product Development Team to develop a strategic vision for pharmacy product offering and effectively manage all aspects of strategic planning/road mapping, business case development, product prioritization and launch to meet the organization’s goals and consumer market needs
  • Synthesize competitive analysis and market assessments to establish go-to-market strategies for the pharmacy product that capitalize on market trends, consumer needs and competitive positioning.  Clearly understands the competitive landscape - competitor strategies, positioning, strengths and weaknesses. Develop competitive market strategy for prescription drug movement
  • Segments markets, identifies target customers and uncovers market needs; Understands market trends and competitive threats through data analysis and market research
  • Responsible for pharmacy specific go to market strategy, value proposition definition and key differentiation messaging
  • Responsible for solutions that meet or exceed revenue and market share goals
  • Owns the operational calendar for Pharmacy Product and engages the New Product Development team to create strategic pharmacy roadmap
  • Champion the prescription drug pricing strategy for Optum Store cash and insured payers with a “price to win” mindset
  • Lead execution of flexible consumer payment strategies
  • Partner internally to support development and launch of a market intelligence pricing capability
  • Build and maintain strategic prescription drug product set for the business and key therapy areas. Partner with Finance to build and manage pharmacy product financial models and forecasts
  • Monitor FDA movement for prescription drug recalls and new-to-market products
  • Serve as primary business contact for prescription drug ordering and management through internal partnerships, group purchasing partner organizations, and wholesaler arrangements
  • Constantly collect and analyze pharmacy product performance data (e.g., market, financial, and operational) in order to identify new opportunities for the business

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or healthcare OR equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing a diverse product portfolio as a Product Manager in a complex, matrix organization; 2+ years of which must be within Pharmacy and/or PBM
  • 4+ years of experience with the technology and/or eCommerce development process, including requirements management
  • 4+ years of experience managing complex projects and activities; setting objectives and goals, developing schedules and resource assignments, measuring performance against goals, and evaluating results
  • Experience using financial and analytical modeling to drive strategy decisions
  • Experience developing and delivering formal presentations to senior leadership
  • Experience leading others to deliver results
  • Proficiency with MS Office; advanced Excel skills
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $110,200 to $211,700.
