GCI's Administrator I, Network will provide expertise in local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), internet system, and storage area network (SAN) in support of complex client-server environments. Position will provide operational monitoring, support, analysis, and systems administration. Install, configure, and support the organization's networks by maintaining systems, applications, security, and network configurations. Responsible for the configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of data communications hardware and software.

Focus assignment: Service Management Center - Systems Administrator

This role is part of the SMC Technical Resolution Team responsible for escalation support focused on technology related to systems. Responsibilities included but not limited to:

* Experienced and knowledgeable administrators who can identify issues and provide solutions for problems
* Understanding of configuration of hardware and applications within a Systems discipline.
* Understanding of supporting protocols and technologies within a Systems discipline.
* Create, update, and execute Change Management procedures

This role is part of the SMC Technical Resolution team responsible for resolution and escalation support focused on Cisco Voice and IP voice technologies. Responsibilities included but not limited to:

* Experienced and knowledgeable administrators who can identify issues and provide solutions for problems
* Understanding of configuration of hardware and applications within a VoIP discipline.
* Understanding of supporting protocols and technologies within a VoIP discipline.

Essential Duties:

* Installs, configures, and supports the company's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and internet systems, or a segment of a network system.
* Monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and may perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
* Responsible for direct customer communication and Tier I and Tier II escalation support.
* May monitor and test site performance to ensure sites operate correctly and without interruption.
* Supports in-network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.
* Administer / perform network security measures.
* Provides event tracking, notification, simple remediation, and escalation support to a higher-level network administrator. Notifies technical support groups and participates in maintaining status of network systems.
* Provide daily summary report of events and system documentation updates.
* Mentoring junior technicians.

Additional Job Requirements: This is an entry-level position for the network or server system administrator. Works under close supervision and requires basic skill set and proficiency within the discipline. Conducting work assignments as directed under close supervision. Must have comprehensive understanding of install, configure, and support of networks; LAN/WAN. Monitor, maintain systems, applications, security and network configurations; network performance conduct analysis and testing and ensure secure and reliable operation following telecommunications technologies; ability to escalate to higher level administrators, management as needed and be able to aid more senior level teams.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Demonstrated knowledge in LAN/WAN technologies, internet, and server platforms.
* General understanding of the functions of internet such as DNS, DHCP, routing, servers, clients, browsers, and email.

* Ability to track and document multiple network events accurately.
* Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of business, operating, and technical staff.
* Advanced skills in Microsoft Visio, Excel, and Word.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Minimum four years' experience within a technical LAN/WAN Networking Operations; computer systems, or relevant environment.
* Telecommunications experience highly valued.
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Associate degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or related field required.
* Or, a combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis.

Certifications: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and contributes toward education.

Preferred Certifications: CCNA; CCNP, CCIE; CWNA; Juniper; CompTIA; HDI, ITIL

Physical Requirements: Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Clarity of vision to see near, mid-range, and color. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions: The work area must be quiet and free of distractions. Lighting must be adequate and without glare. Distracting noises should be kept to a minimum. The employee's desk must be adequate, designed to safely accommodate the equipment the employee must use, e.g., computer, printer, keyboard, monitor etc. The employee must have reliable connectivity to the internet to access GCI via VPN. Employee workstation must comply with GCI's ergonomics standards.

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.

Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
