Working within the Division Function Marketing and Sales, the Business Development Manager - Energy Systems, implements and updates the account strategy for Process Automation Energy Industries (PAEN), from the customer’s perspective.

You will be the primary point of contact between assigned Pursuits for Power Management Systems and Energy Management Solutions. Develops, implements and updates the account strategy for Energy Solutions based out of Houston, Texas from the customer’s perspective.

Assigned accounts and pursuits will be comprised of customers and prospects from the Power, Water, Chemicals, Refining, Oil & Gas and Pharmaceutical sustainable energy markets. This role serves as a business driver for sales activities relating to ABB’s Power Management System solutions and Energy Management Solutions. The role will address all of the various customer segments (end-user plant sites, end-user corporate centers, EPCs and engineering firms, Channel Partners). Responsibility for sales will include for selling to existing customers and to grow his/her installed base of customers by prospecting the assigned territory for conversion opportunities.

This role reports to our facility in Houston, TX. This role can be a work-remote basis if the candidate meets the requirements of the job.

Your responsibilities

  • Accountable to meet or exceed sales targets for the assigned territory. Develop and maintain good, trusting relationships within the engineering, maintenance, operations and executive groups related to strategic pursuits.
  • Consult with customers regarding their near and long term operational objectives and the health/effectiveness of their electrical distribution system to promote how ABB power management solutions can increase reliability and optimize their operations
  • Be recognized as the biggest advocate for your customers within ABB.This includes promoting ideas and escalating resolution of issues that will result in higher customer satisfaction and loyalty
  • Develop, execute and drive capture strategies for opportunity specific sales pursuits. Achieve input and buy in from Sales and Business Line Management. Support the proposal development process by communicating strategies and key customer issues and by being responsive to the proposal team. Maintain an accurate sales forecast and customer engagement/visit reporting within SFDC (salesforce.com).
  • Understand the organizational, cultural, and competitive landscape of your customers well enough to know our strengths and weaknesses and be able to anticipate opportunities and threats to our business. Be able to summarize this overall account picture to Management. Work with other ABB Business Lines to uncover broader system and services offerings.
  • Assist Sales Management and other BU Team Members in preparing the necessary information (MS Power Point slides, MS Excel spreadsheets) to support meetings with customers and BU (Business Unit​) Management
  • Working with Global Product Groups and Market to develop relevant customer engagement material


Your background

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering, and minimum 2 years of experience in business development, Direct to End-Customer sales, or Service, engineering, Energy systems,
  • Open to travel between 25% to 50%.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Practical understanding of the control system market and what customers desire from a Power Management Systems vendor supplying state of the art technology and services.
  • Knowledge of electrical single line diagram, facility power consumption / generation strategies and Power Management Systems
  • Relevant Industry experience, especially in Energy sector such as Power, Water, Chemicals, Refining, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical, etc.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the USA.
