Job Description

The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for the provision of counseling and case management services to a caseload of approximately 10-12 consumers.  Services are primarily community-based.  The Therapist facilitates regular therapy sessions and monitors emotional health status of consumers being treated for mental health issues, providing care from the point of intake/referral, through treatment, to completion/discharge.  The Therapist also works with community organizations to facilitate referrals, when needed, to outside providers to meet consumer needs, and regularly consults with those agencies providing additional direct supports.   The Therapist coordinates the flow of information while protecting the confidentiality of individuals served.  



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organizational Management

  1. Can articulate the mission, vision and values of Company, the practices of evidence-based interventions and therapeutic services compliant with Medicaid regulations for enrolled individuals.   
  2. Facilitate evidence-based interventions through individual therapy sessions, clinically assesses and re-assesses individuals as required, and participate and consult with the treatment team working toward consumer-driven goals.   
  3. Provide consumers with counseling and concrete assistance to support, increase, or restore capacity for self-sufficiency.
  4. Comfortable working with all age groups from young children through geriatric and with both male and female clients, and able to serve clients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  5. Provide screening, assessment, treatment planning, evidence-based therapeutic intervention, re-assessment, and referrals as needed. 
  6. Complete documentation in accordance with Medicaid, state, federal, and organization requirements.
  7. Provide crisis intervention as required and follow-up clinical assessment with consumer(s) involved to determine need for appropriate clinical course of action.
  8. Attend or facilitate consumer staffings/interventions and document outcomes.
  9. Meet regularly with supervisor or designee for clinical supervision and seek further supervision when appropriate and necessary.
  10. Self-monitor billing and productivity levels and give feedback to supervisor regarding billing efforts.
  11. Timely communication with Medicaid and other Indiana Health Coverage Programs regarding authorizations is critical.
  12. Willingly complete other duties as assigned to advance the mission of Company.

 Supervision

1.       The Mental Health Therapist does not directly supervise any positions.

 Practice Level Component

1.       Uses knowledge of the practice level component and Company mission, values, and guiding principles to inform decisions, and develop a strong understanding of team-based collaborative processes.

2.       Uses standard and consistent assessment tools.

3.       Is competent in areas of engaging, joining, assessing and problem solving using the best solution focused interventions and treatment plans.

4.       Demonstrates skill in consensus building, creative problem solving, mediation, and general meeting facilitation.

5.       Maintains fidelity to evidence-based practices.

Learning Organization and Staff Training

1.       Consults with leadership regarding ongoing training in the best practice of mental health services.

2.       Actively participates in internal and external training opportunities.

3.       Exhibits enthusiasm for learning and personal growth.

4.       Understands and can describe key components of all Company programs/lines of service.

Community Partnership

1.       Works with supervisor in the ongoing development of a functional provider organization.

2.       Effectively presents requested data to stakeholders. 

3.       Ensures prompt response to community, staff, client, and family requests.

4.       Maintains positive working relationships with key community agencies and stakeholders.

5.       Works with external and community partners to advance and improve upon the development and provision of services.  

6.       Represents Company Values and follows Company Guiding Principles within the community at all times.

Qualifications

1.       Master's Degree in social work, psychology, or other human service field required, with year of full-time experience in human services field preferred.  Indiana license strongly preferred (Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Independent Practice School Psychologist).

2.       Maintains active clinical license per respective professional license board.

3.       Maintains active certification in specialized areas of practice and evidence-based treatment modalities.

4.       Demonstrated skills in assessment tools, crisis intervention, team building and development.

5.       Strong communication and writing skills.  Bi-lingual skills (Spanish) a plus.

6.       Highly organized, and effectively manages multiple priorities simultaneously.

7.       Professionally articulate in communicating (oral and written) system development, change and outcomes.

8.       Demonstrated professionalism working in teams with internal colleagues and external audiences both in person and through various electronic media.

9.       Certified in CANS assessment tool within 45 days of hire.

10.   Enthusiastic about advancing system change within the community.

11.   Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and auto insurance.

Additional Requirements

1.       May participate in on-call rotation for after-hours clinical consultation.

2.       Sets a standard demeanor and dress of a professional.

3.       Conducts work related, public behavior in a manner that is representative of Company values.
