We are looking for talented New Graduates and Experienced Nurses to join our Operating Room's Neurosurgery Nursing Team here @ WellSpan Health York Hospital.

Average resident program time is 9 mos-1 year. Following the program, residents will assume the roll of an Operating Room/ Neurosurgery RN @ WYH.
Department Description:
WellSpan Health York Hospital has 16 main OR's with 2 Open Heart OR's who have separate team coverage. We are a Level I Trauma Center with 24/7 staff coverage. Our teams provide over 14,000 surgical procedures/year, covering 14 specialties using some of the world's most advanced medical equipment and navigation systems. The Neurosurgery team is looking for a dedicated, highly functional team member who is eager to learn new procedures/ technologies. Some of the Neurosurgery highlights include:

Under the general supervision of the Specialty Coordinator and Nurse Manager, will gain knowledge and tools to provide professional nursing care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Learns to act as a primary nurse for patients on the unit and coordinate care planning with other disciplines. Will gain specialized skills related to Neurosurgery while also learning specialties within the General Operating Room. Upon successful completion of orientation, will support Neurosurgery in primary role and support main Operating Room during downtime. Neurosurgery team will be comprised of 8 team members plus a Neuro Specialty Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities: 1. Provides and coordinates direct care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit. Synthesizes patient data to develop outcome-driven plans. 2. Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessment and plan of care. 3. Appropriately organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workload. Identifies changes in patient status and acts accordingly. Knows and can activate resources to achieve outcomes for patients. 4. Proactively seeks assignments in the main OR when Neurosurgery does not have cases. 5. Identifies and communicates individualized patient needs for safe hand-offs during transitions of care. Collaborates with patient/family in care planning with all disciplines. 6. Appropriately and correctly documents the patient response to interventions and progress toward outcomes. Identifies and documents variances. Appropriately utilizes flow sheets, progress notes, and/or electronic medical record for documentation. Is able to identify system and unit-based nursing sensitive indicators; i.e. falls, pressure ulcers. 7. Identifies own areas of professional growth and development in performance improvement efforts. Recognizes the value of evidence- based research as it applies to best practice. 8. Promotes a professional practice environment that supports patient safety and quality through interdisciplinary collaboration, Shared Decision Making activities including peer review and committee/council participation. Integrate Shared Decision Making by unit committee membership or by supporting and helping fellow co-workers attend committee meetings and/or work on SDM projects. Serves as positive role model. 9. Delegates aspects of care to other nursing personnel in order to meet patient needs. Helps assistive personnel organize and set priorities for work. Monitors completion of tasks that are assigned or delegated to the patient care team. 10. Promotes collaboration and cooperation among physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Contributes to effective communications among all team members. Displays conflict resolution and negotiation skills to maximize team performance.
11. Supports Neurosurgery service during off-hours by taking on-call assignment. On-call hours require a 30-minute response time from call notification to on-site presence at the hospital.

+ Minimum Experience:
+ Enrolled in Associate's or Bachelor's Degree Nursing program with anticipated graduation date of 1 year or less from application date.
+ Minimum Education:
+ Associate's Degree
+ Preferred Education:
+ Bachelors of Science, Nursing (BSN)
+ Required Certification:
+ Registration and current RN license in PA; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
+ Ability to care for Pediatric, Adult and Geriatric populations utilizing nursing judgement and assessment.
