Job Title

Machine Shop Supervisor

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Machine Shop Manager, and in collaboration with the Machine Shop Design Engineer, this position is responsible and accountable for leading the activities of the Shaw machine shops in the design and fabrication of parts and equipment.

Responsibilities

Assigns duties and manages shop employees, driving results using inclusive leadership and planning and organizational skills. Works to maintain safety, quality, costs, schedules, inventory, and regulatory compliance. Provides leadership to develop and grow, as well as handling issues and concerns with, employees. Builds trusting relationships with management and associates to ensure effective communication, resulting in excellent service and quality as well as improved processes, maintaining and improving the machine shop’s value to the company.

Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 10 years experience in a machine shop environment

  • Previous leadership experience in a machine shop environment

  • Experience as a CNC machinist is preferred

  • Experience with CAM software (Esprit Preferred) as well as AutoDesk CAD products such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, etc,

  • Previous experience with sheet metal, bend allowances, K-factors, and tonnages is a plus.

  • Proficient in using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc)

  • Proficient in Google products such as Docs and Sheets

  • Good PC setup and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience in customer service, support, and quoting in a machining and fabrication environment

  • Strong communication skills required

  • Experience in quoting, materials selection, and competitive bid process

  • Experience managing a financial budget, knowledge of ERP software a strong plus, experience managing an inventory system.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work closely with customers to deliver workable solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Comprehensive understanding of shop equipment, machining and fabrication processes, tolerances, fits, surface finishes, secondary operations (heat treating, coatings, metallurgy sciences), etc.

  • Ability to read and understand prints including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes as they relate to the parts we make.

  • Ability to understand mechanical concepts and ideas (mechanically adept).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly evolving environment

  • Use personal transportation or company vehicle to travel to plant locations, maintaining a valid driver’s license at all times. Some overnight travel required

  • Ability to work off-shift or odd hours

  • Ability to handle multiple jobs at one time.

  • Manage the Supply Room inventory and weekly cycle counts.

8 hour, day shift
