Food Inspector
Overview:
A Food Inspector ensures that food products are safe, wholesome, and properly labeled. inspect food and enforce regulations and standards set by government agencies. The primary duties include examining food products and production processes, identifying potential health hazards, and ensuring compliance with sanitation and safety protocols.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct inspections of food processing.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local food safety regulations and standards.
- Examine food products, ingredients, and production processes for contamination or safety violations
- Monitor sanitation and hygiene practices in food handling and preparation areas.
- Identify and document violations, potential health hazards, and safety concerns.
- Review and verify food labeling for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Educate and inform food industry personnel about safety standards and best practices.
- Prepare detailed reports of inspection findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Follow up on previous inspections to ensure violations have been addressed and corrected.
- Stay updated on changes in food safety laws and industry developments.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in food safety, quality control or related area.
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (Preferred) in food science, biology, microbiology or related fields.
- Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP) (Preferred)
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of Food Safety Regulations In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local food safety laws and standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP).
- Proficiency in conducting thorough inspections and audits of food processing and handling facilities.
- Ability to assess and enforce quality control measures and standards.
- Ability to analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend effective solutions.
- Skilled in handling tools and equipment necessary for food sampling and inspection.
