**Occupational Health Specialist I**
•*Summary of Position Duties**
The Occupational Health Specialist position implements, coordinates, and facilitates onsite health enhancement initiatives and disease prevention projects and screenings tailored to the specific needs, assessment and risk identification of Southern Company/Georgia Power employees. This position supports onsite medical clinics, as well as other Southern Company locations for the provision of health services that also include the assessment, treatment, tracking and analysis of work related and personal illness and injuries.
This position will report to the lead, Specialist Sr Occupational health nurse and will be primarily located in the metro Atlanta area, to include medical clinics at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, N.E.; Atlanta, GA 30308; 30 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30308; 62 Lake Mirror Road, Forest Park, GA 30297 or 2500 Patrick Henry Pkwy, McDonough, GA. 30253 and may include additional travel to alternate work locations and may include out of state travel and overnight stays on occasion.
•*Job Experience and Education**
This position requires a current State of Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license, with Nurse Compact license preferred. State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license, Health Coach, Case Management and Occupational Health Certifications are desirable.
Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience including assessment, treatment and tracking of varied health conditions and health promotion/education. Health Coaching, Occupational health, acute care, and wellness program delivery experience are preferred.
•*Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**
+ Comprehensive knowledge of health promotion and health management, emergency first aid procedures and nursing practice, clinical skills, including guidance and counseling that meets the needs of employees.
+ Professional presence that achieves credibility with the Management Team, company employees and the medical/business community
+ In-depth knowledge of company programs, policies and procedures in order to make appropriate decisions and referrals.
+ General knowledge of state-of-the-art health and medical issues to provide resource information to employees and management.
+ Effective leadership and project management skills.
+ Knowledge of medical services and other community resources in order to make appropriate referrals and appointments as needed.
+ General knowledge of Company network, departmental organizations, and employees statewide to disseminate information, gather facts and facilitate accomplishment of goals.
+ Functional knowledge of state and federal regulatory and compliance issues (OSHA, Worker's Comp, Blood Borne Pathogens, etc.).
+ Ability to discern needs and to take appropriate action.
+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to develop trust and rapport with team members, employees, departments, and the management team.
+ Strong desire and enthusiasm for understanding and satisfying client needs.
+ Ability to network and interface with the management team and other professionals to ensure appropriate communication.
+ Provide nursing assessment, treatment, tracking, follow-up and referrals and emergency care for health conditions, injuries and illnesses consistent with health services and case management protocol.
+ Support company wellness programs to include onsite medical rooms, health and wellbeing coaching, onsite health and well-being events, lab draws, tracking of abnormal findings, and other miscellaneous health and wellness initiatives.
+ Coach/Counsel Employees concerning lifestyle habits such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, fitness, and mental wellbeing strategies.
+ Additional duties include coordinating health enhancement programs, conducting and monitoring special projects, such as disease prevention programs, etc.
+ Coordinate and implement wellness programs and disease prevention projects that are appealing to the employee, retiree, and family members, appropriate for the department/work location, and cost-efficient/cost saving for the Company.
+ Travel to additional locations to support onsite wellness initiatives, special health enhancement programs, blood pressure screenings, health and well-being events, lab screenings, etc. Travel may include driving a light duty company provided vehicle several hours to alternate locations and overnight stays. Work hours often include early morning hours and late afternoon.
+ Market health care services such as Southern _LifeStyle_ , health management program, executive physical program, health enhancement projects, lunch ‘n learn programs, on-site screenings, health fairs, lab draws, etc.
+ Assess and refer to Employee Assistance Program (EAP), medical plan or other appropriate sources for employees and family members with health, work, stress, emotional and/or substance abuse problems.
+ Develop referral sources for physicians, dentists, treatment centers, etc.
+ Assess employees with medical illnesses and emergencies and take appropriate action according to established protocol. Prevention, early detection, and prompt treatment results in cost savings to the health plan and contributes to employee availability at work, as well as increased productivity and morale.
+ Participate in creating new and innovative programs, approaches and techniques that will encourage and motivate employees to make positive lifestyle changes.
+ Respond to emergency assignments by being deployed with storm teams to monitor, assess, and respond to employee health care and wellness needs during an emergency. Deployment may include up to 2 weeks in or out of state.
+ Maintain HIPAA/Privacy and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance standards.
