WJLA-TV & NewsChannel 8 is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Web Editor to help grow the Government Matters brand.  With the re-launch of our new daily program Government Matters, you have a tremendous opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help expand our portfolio of effective tools to reach the federal marketplace. The successful candidate will help transform GovMatters.TV from a companion website to a TV show to an online destination for news and information about the federal marketplace.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Synthesizing video content into online articles
  • Writing and reporting news articles and emails
  • Writing headlines and teases
  • Producing video clips, implementing engagement features
  • Managing social media and managing the homepage
  • Using metrics to make informed editorial decisions
  • Use email databases to drive traffic to our website

Requirements include:

  • College degree OR minimum 1-year relative experience in the field required
  • Ability to work with a multitude of people and personalities while maintaining a professional work environment

The ideal candidate will possess strong news judgment, attention to detail, copy editing skills, familiarity with WordPress and a strong knowledge of how to reach out to a large audience on Facebook and Twitter. Above all, though, we are looking for a driven, creative candidate who works well under pressure and has a keen eye on the future of digital journalism. You must be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
