Director, Corporate Development

Role Summary

Russell Investments is seeking a Director, Corporate Development who will play a critical role in accelerating the long-term growth of the company. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, this position will work across the organization to define, lead and execute the company's M&A strategy. This role will be key in identifying, analyzing and executing deals and the individual will provide senior leaders and board members with the needed insight to drive forward our global growth strategy. The ideal candidate will bring humility with strong quantitative skills, strategic thinking and sound business judgement.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
  • Identify strategic M&A opportunities through structured alignment with the global strategy, keeping a close pulse on the asset management industry and market dynamics to determine execution feasibility
  • Generate acquisition strategies and themes both independently and in coordination with the CSO and the Executive Committee
  • Lead M&A transactions from sourcing and screening potential acquisition targets to deal execution (due diligence, evaluation, negotiation and investment recommendations for the Russell Executive Committee and Board)
  • Work in collaboration with the finance team to build complex financial models, valuation analyses and company/industry due diligence
  • Be comfortable with a rapidly changing and dynamic environment


The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
  • 8+ years in total experience, with significant M&A experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Outstanding performer with a demonstrated record of achievement at a top tier investment bank, private equity firm, or active M&A corporate development group
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the evaluation of acquisition opportunities (qualitative and quantitative) and managing the day-to-day execution of transactions
  • Comfortable operating with limited infrastructure, shaping and driving process independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
