Software Developer I - Information Technology

Federal Reserve Bank Washington, DC (On Site) Full-Time
The Software Developer I contributes to the design, code, unit testing, implementation, and maintenance of small software solutions or modules of larger solutions. Works both independently and as part of a team to develop software solutions that meet both business and compliance requirements.

Degree in computer science, information systems, other related discipline, or equivalent work experience in application development. Proficient with one or more of the major development platforms used at the Board, including the related operating environments. Familiar with system development life cycle principles, including Agile development practices. Good analytical skills and the ability to learn new material quickly.

Position will focus on application improvement and ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M) efforts for existing applications. There may be scenarios where legacy applications will need to be replaced with modernized products. Application improvement and O&M efforts will largely be based in Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft.Net Framework and SQL Server. Candidate must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of the C#, Angular, Typescript, ASP.NET Web API, SQL Server programming languages. The successful candidate is self-motivated, with strong analytical skills, and possess an ability to learn quickly, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following activities:

* Develop basic software solutions using approved frameworks.
* Assists in requirements gathering with clients and subject matter experts and translates business requirements into technical design for smaller software solutions.
* Designs, codes, unit tests, and implements modules or solutions of basic complexity with guidance from mentor/senior developer following best practices to ensure code quality.
* Ensures compliance with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and Board standards by following secure coding principles.
* Debugs and optimizes code employing standard division technology. Participates in peer reviews.
* Employs source control and configuration management of code and related artifacts following division standards.
* Assists with authoring supporting documentation such as design specifications, process diagrams, and help system content in accordance with the system development life cycle or project standards.
* Provides production support and participates in defect and incident root cause analysis.
* Participates in implementation planning and execution for production releases and contingency testing as required.
* Supports system upgrades and third-party software upgrades to ensure compliance with division governance.
* Assists with creating training material and providing end user training.

The general skill sets required are:

* Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong organizational and coordination skills.
* Demonstrated experience developing software according to the software development lifecycles (SDLCs), including DevOps, Agile, Lean, Iterative, or Waterfall.
* Demonstrated understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and secure coding principles.
