Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Labor Supervisor/RN to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the staffing and flow of work in the Labor and Delivery Department
Participates in the implementation of hospital policies and procedures
Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance
This position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities
Supervises Labor and Delivery nursing staff.

The Supervisor works collaboratively with unit-specific educators, department manager, the DON and the compliance team to support staffing and educational needs
The roles of the supervisor include: leader, educator, facilitator, change agent, collaborator, advisor, mentor, consultant, and researcher.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisor RN
  1. 1
    Promotes the department(s) and its services in the organization's primary mission, including any developments and changes to the Labor and Delivery dept.

    Coordinates and integrates services within the department(s) and with other departments.

    Reviews, updates and supports the policies and procedures, in Policy Stat, that guide and support the provision of services.
    4
    Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care with current guidelines on staffing ratios and acuity levels.
    5
    Participates in quality improvement programs used in the department.

    Assists with scheduling for orientation, in-service education, training and continuing education of all persons in the department.

    Provides feedback as necessary to individual staff members regarding their performance
    Reports problems with staff members to the Labor and Delivery Manager.

    Participates in the interviewing and hiring of employees.

    Participates in monthly staff meetings, charge nurse meetings and monthly unit education.

    Evaluate the performance of staff: nurses and nursing assistants while having the ability to provide ongoing feedback, mentoring, and coaching.

    Meets with orienteers' and/or unit educators regularly to monitor new employees and their progress.

    Ensures staff receives proper orientation prior to assuming patient care responsibilities.

    Ensures all employee competency sheets are collected and turned into Education.

    Demonstrates an ability to identify and resolve problems
    Uses initiative and good judgement to reach quality decisions.

    Maintains an effective rapport with patients, visitors, physicians, and directors.

    Promotes confidentiality and uses complete discretion when discussing information.

    Maintains assigned equipment, reports, malfunction, recall documentation and orders services as necessary.

    Participates in performance improvement/performance evaluation activities, including data collection, development of indicators, and evaluation criteria.

    Covers call 1-2 weekends a month, as well as scheduled vacation time or sick days for Labor and Delivery Manager.

    Assists in documentation and data collection for occurrence reports and patient complaints processes.

    Assists with chart audits and quarterly goal planning/evaluation for the department.

    Assists Labor and Delivery Manager as needed with administration of the Women's Center.

    Assists with teaching unit-based educators as well as staff how to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate unit-specific training to insure safe patient care.

    Collaborates with management and unit-specific educators when planning training that affects their clinics/department and reports completion of and attendance of these activities.

    Coordinate clinical staff requirements and ensure that all staff are current in their licensure and education.

    Assists with the monitoring of employees for timely completion of required courses through the learning management system (HealthStream).

    Collaborates with the unit educators with new hires and annual competencies to ensure they are informed of new nursing mentorships and changes in unit-specific competency paperwork.

    Assists with biannual, or as needed, skills labs.

    Fosters effective collegial relationships with manager, educators, charge nurses as well as staff.

    Collects data for and assists in the preparation of reports as required and/or requested.

    Assists with the planning, developing, implementation, and evaluation of education content in response to identified knowledge deficits within the organization.

    Collaborates with Manager, DON, compliance department, and unit-based educators to implement, communicate, educate, and evaluate standards of care.

    Serves as a consultant for educational activities within the L&D Dept.

    Demonstrates effective proactive situational leadership while working within the framework of Mountain View's mission, vision, and values by actively supporting new programs and changes in the organization.

    Acts as coordinator and schedules committee meetings, oversees paperwork, becomes the expert of processes and requirements of nursing needs

    Participates in Quality Assurance Committee/Compliance Department team meeting/Nurse Leader Meeting and any other meeting or committee as needed.

    Assists management with education planning and coordination for L&D to determine what conferences, certifications, and courses would be beneficial, who will attend and how often attendance is required.

    Assists with prenatal class coordination as needed by Prenatal Class Instructor.

    Fulfills coordination of Labor and Deliver staffing and educational needs.

    Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Diploma from accredited nursing program
Licensure as registered nurse in the State of Idaho
Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certification and renewal as required.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in Labor and Delivery required


Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge.

Mathematical Skills: Basic

Mental Capabilities: Cognitive and technical knowledge and the ability to progressively manage care delivery across the continuum of care
Demonstrates good judgment and analytical ability in preparing work for review.

Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.

Performance: Able to exercise discretion and independent action within prescribed limits
Demonstrates effective delegation skills
Maintains calm and effective behavior during stressful situations
Demonstrates knowledge of current computer systems used in the organization
This position will require someone who is dedicated and innovative
Someone who will help progress the unit to grow, expand and adjust to any changes.
