About the Opportunity
Position Summary
The College of Professional Studies (CPS) at Northeastern University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Master of Science in Project Management. The position is based at our campus in Portland, ME, and will be responsible for supporting our Arlington, VA, campus. The potential for transnational work is also possible.
The Master of Science in Project Management program is one of the largest Project Management programs in North America and is a GAC® (Global Accreditation Center) accredited by the Project Management Institute, Inc. Classes are offered in an online, blended, and/or hybrid format at the University's Main Campus in Boston and Regional Campuses in Charlotte, NC; Seattle, WA; Silicon Valley, CA; Portland, ME; and Toronto.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
This full-time faculty member is expected to bring their intellectual and creative capacity to bear in advancement of the program, seeking to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. They will teach a full teaching load spread throughout the year and will work with the program office on administrative issues and programmatic projects.
Teaching & Curricular Oversight (50% of time)
- Course instruction will focus on core courses, such as project scope, risk, scheduling, cost, and quality as well as concentrations including leadership, analytics, business analysis, agile, and construction management.
- In conjunction with the Faculty Lead, developing and implementing course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials; includes region specific coursework as desired.
- Overseeing the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Faculty Lead in the selection of instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating instructor performance.
- Identifying and providing recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry leading.
- Working with the Faculty Lead to ensure regional programs meet license/accreditation requirements and participate in comprehensive regional evaluations and periodic reviews.
- In collaboration with the Faculty Lead, creating modularity guidelines and recommendations for program content integration across the programs and regional campuses.
Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:
Program & Regional Support (25% of time)
- Collaborating with the Faculty Director and Faculty Lead to develop and drive regional strategies for program expansion, including:
- Analyzing regional enrollment and retention data and developing strategies to achieve regional enrollment goals.
- Reviewing and refining the program's regional positioning and messaging documents.
- Evaluating the fiscal viability of the regional program within the overall portfolio.
- Promoting development of new degrees and certificates within the portfolio to meet demands of the marketplace.
- Identifying enrollments goals for regional programs
- Collaborating with the Faculty Director and Faculty Lead to define processes and best practices for leveraging professional networks within the region to create deeper connections between stakeholders.
- Creating local events to increase student connections to regional campus, on-ground student development, and expanding impact of curricular content within the market.
- Coordinating with the Faculty Lead in the creation and management of industry advisory boards.
- Representing the program in regional orientations, open houses, and tracking student progress.
- In collaboration with the Faculty Lead, identify and reach out to possible Co-op and experiential learning sponsors to establish relationships and define engagement.
Faculty & Student Support (20% of time)
- In coordination with the Faculty Lead, assess and enhance instructional quality of courses by offering follow-up coaching to regional part time faculty.
- Collaborating with the Faculty Lead to recruit and vet qualified candidates for part time faculty positions.
- Assisting the program in the onboarding of new regional part time faculty and maintaining ongoing communications and mentorship to gauge engagement within the program.
- Providing opportunities for part time faculty to engage with program and college activities; seek their professional and curricular feedback.
- Working with faculty and staff in providing advice regarding course selection as requested by Academic Advisors and/or Program Managers.
CPS Support (5% of time)
- Participating in program and faculty committee meetings as applicable.
- Serving on committees that support the mission of the program and the vision of the College and wider University.
Travel
- In addition to supporting the Arlington, VA, campus, occasional travel will be required to the University's Campuses in Boston, Silicon Valley, Seattle, Toronto, and/or Charlotte.
- Examples of required travel include the annual CPS Graduation and Faculty Conference.
- The potential for transnational work is also possible.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the master's level, teaching and developing on ground and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:
- A terminal degree from an accredited institution either in project management or a related field by appointment start date.
- An active Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential awarded through the Project Management Institute.
- 10+ years of professional experience at the project manager level.
- Demonstrated understanding of the broader project management community and the range of project management maturity levels of organizations.
- Experience teaching at the master's level in both on ground and online environments.
- Demonstrate a dedication to continued improvement as an educator and a desire to align with the scholar-practitioner model.
- It is highly desirable that candidates have a track record of presenting to Project Management Chapters, Interest Groups, and other Industry groups on project management topics.
Supervision
This position reports to the Faculty Lead for Project Management programs.
Additional Information
This is a non-tenure track, annually renewable position. This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes being present on the Arlington, VA, campus, required evening hours and the possibility of weekend hours. Travel to the University's other Regional Campuses may be required. There may be opportunities to teach overseas.
