A prominent CPA firm in the Santa Barbara area is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their team. This position will be responsible for maintaining and growing client relationships, handling tax matters, providing training and assistance to staff as needed, and proactively pursuing potential business opportunities and discerning internal initiatives. Given the nature of this job, it is imperative that the person in this position maintains confidentiality in all client matters. This position requires the individual to have an extensive knowledge of tax processes and laws, as well as an ability to take initiative, set priorities and communicate in a professional manner with your team and clients at all times. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about their work, enjoys working in a team environment, and possesses excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
•Reviewing tax returns on a regular basis
•Providing guidance to staff on complex IRS notices
•Reviewing and verifying tax research
•Representing clients at IRS office audits
•Identifying, recommending, and/or implementing business processes that increase efficiency
•Identifying tax planning ideas
•Anticipating and identifying client issues and concerns while providing advice that reflects a thorough understanding of client's situation and objectives
•Initiating regular contact with client or client executives during the engagement, including regular verbal and written correspondence and in-person meetings to strengthen business relationship
•Maintaining full client responsibility including billing and collection efforts
•Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA license; Master's degree in Taxation a plus
•5+ years of increasingly complex tax experience gained within a public accounting firm, and at least 3 years at Manager level
•Proficient in corporate, individual, fiduciary, and partnership taxation
•Strong familiarity with IRS Circular 230 Regulations Governing the Practice of Attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, Actuaries and Enrolled Agents Before the IRS and the AICPA Professional Code of Conduct
•Strong understanding and working knowledge of various tax programs and of requisite software and internal work flow/procedures
