Sophomore Summer Business Analyst at McKinsey

Sophomore Summer Business Analyst

McKinsey Austin, TX Full-Time
You'll work in one of our offices in North America for ~10 weeks in the summer. You'll work as part of a project team, collaborating with colleagues to solve their toughest business problems.

Our Sophomore (second-year) Summer Business Analyst program (SSBA) provides first-hand experience with consulting at McKinsey & Company to a highly select group of undergraduate students who are members of historically underrepresented groups in the management consulting profession, including Black, African American, Hispanic, Latino, and/or part of Indigenous groups in North America. This internship experience is comparable to our Summer Business Analyst program. Candidates who are currently undergraduate sophomores or in their second-year of undergraduate studies at U.S. or Canadian universities are eligible to apply.

Offices participating include Atlanta, Boston, Calgary, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, Montreal, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Southern California, Stamford, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington D.C., McKinsey Digital (all offices), and some of our practices like Corporate Finance, Marketing, and Private Equity.

You'll work in teams of typically 3-5 consultants, playing an active role in all aspects of the engagement.

This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing and communicating recommendations. You'll also have the opportunity to present results and implement recommendations in collaboration with team members.

You'll gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to the firm. SSBAs receive exceptional training as well as frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues on their teams. We start our support for SSBAs before the summer with an optional weekend-long "boot camp" in the spring during which we focus on skill building and forming a peer community of SSBAs. Once you join, you are provided with a week of training, and a partner from your local office or practice is assigned to you to help guide you throughout your internship.

You will work with McKinsey colleagues, owning a distinct piece of the project. Some examples of the specific work may include interviewing stakeholders and experts, leading teams, building financial models, creating and delivering presentations, and working with McKinsey subject experts to develop perspectives and insights.

You'll gain real-world experience with the broad range of work McKinsey consultants do, including serving clients as well as helping to build McKinsey's internal knowledge and capabilities. You'll build critical new skills within a training program specifically designed for the SSBA program. You'll participate in a number of social activities throughout the summer to help you get to know our Firm culture, interact with other summer interns, as well as members of our diversity communities.
