While addressing the American market, within our Business Unit Fiber Optics, LEONI Fiber Optics, Inc. is an integral part of a global engineering team with co-workers in Germany allowing for innovative and customer-specific solutions.



LEONI is looking for a full-time engineer to join our team in the Williamsburg, VA office on the level of Senior Engineer. The ideal candidate brings an affiliation to fiber optics, optical lasers, or optical metrology instruments either through college, doctoral or post-doctoral research, or prior work experience. 

Tasks and Responsibilities:
•    Develop and release new fiber optic prototypes and products according to customer specification or other requirements 
•    Provide product documentation such as datasheets, BOMs and drawings
•    Support quote requests 
•    Control of materials, article numbers, and documents according to internal and customer standards
•    Support supplier selection for new and existing materials 
•    Realization and documentation of change management
•    Support creation of technical documentation for product release by customers or regulatory authorities
•    Interaction with customers, e.g., phone calls, visits, trade shows
•    Contribute to product catalogues and other external product information
•    Implement Design To Cost (DTC) initiatives within the field of responsibility
•    Implementation of technical development incl. patents / literature research
•    Perform project management and other duties as assigned by superior

Qualifications:
•    Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or Physics, ideally: Graduate Degree 
•    Ideally, working experience in the manufacturing or application of fiber optic assemblies
•    Self-Motivated and Self-Directed with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
•    Communication skills, cooperativeness, and ability to work in a team
•    Preferred: Working knowledge of software tools (in particular MS Office, Solidworks)
•    Effective time management skills with ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment.
•    Ability to legally work in the United States.
