Forest Outreach Coordinator
The Forest Outreach Coordinator will have a background in natural resource management and/or conservation education and provide expertise in the development of outreach materials and marketing strategies as well as science delivery of tools, trainings and outreach programs with particular reference to forestry. This position will also be responsible for synthesizing existing social science data and working with experts and partners to address social science data gaps. Familiarity with Appalachian forests, forest economics and/or social science is desirable. This position will provide outreach support for an interagency program of work developed annually by the Ohio Interagency Forestry Team (United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Forest Service (FS), Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry, and Ohio State University (OSU) Extension) in conjunction with the Cooperative Extension Service and the McIntire Stennis Forestry Program and Central State University (CSU). This will be a Cooperative Extension position co-located with the US Forest Service in The Wayne National Forest Supervisor’s Office, Nelsonville, Ohio.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Tree Identification
- Forestry Planning
- Serve the Appalachian Counties in Ohio in matters related to forestry
- Provide Outreach support to the Ohio Interagency Forestry Team; team point of contact will be the Ohio Interagency Liaison
- Assist with coordination of technical assistance delivery by providing outreach materials and support to USDA NRCS District Conservationists and ODNR Division of Forestry Service Foresters in southeast Ohio
- Develop, organize, and provide outreach and programming for private landowners
- Create outreach tools and materials for various internal and external communication outlets
- Support organization and facilitation of Interagency communications including joint meetings, training sessions and internal communication tools
- Quantify and track outreach efforts including underserved and underrepresented populations
- Seek external funding opportunities to support outreach and engagement with natural resources programming
- Support outreach and engagement programming for fire prevention and education including community wildfire protection plans for the state’s fire protection area in partnership with the FS and ODNR Division of Forestry
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Master’s degree with 3-5 years of experience or Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of experience in natural resources management, forestry or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Must have well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and record keeping skills
- Must be able to successfully work with people at all organizational levels and diverse backgrounds
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and travel to various locations throughout the state of Ohio
- Proficient in the use of desktop publishing and/or video editing software
