SOFTWARE ENGINEER, C++ / CUDA (RAPTOR)We’re looking for a strong software developer with skills in performance engineering and design. The goal of the SpaceX combustion modeling team is to develop first-in-class combustion simulation software to optimize and significantly reduce the development time of the Raptor rocket engine

Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard software problems and want to make a direct impact on a super inspiring mission.RESPONSIBILITIES: Seek out, evaluate, and implement state-of-the-art features on multi-core and GPU hardware that extend simulation capabilities and improve the performance, as motivated by an aggressive rocket development programDevelop and maintain a massively parallel, high performance combustion simulation softwareCollaborate with combustion analysts and computational physicists to develop advanced simulation tools that accelerate engine designExtend and improve interoperability among existing toolsSupport all aspects of software development as a member of a cross-functional teamMaintain highest standards of excellence, never settling for the status quo, with a focus on getting to MarsBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline and 5+ years of professional software development experience; OR 7+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of degree.5+ years of software development experience in C++2+ years of experience in software architecture/designPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Experience developing highly efficient concurrent/parallel applications and algorithms (e.g
threading, MPI, CUDA)Experience working with a team on at least one large (>100,000 lines) software projectExperience with object-oriented software design and functional programingDeep understanding of distributed, horizontally scalable systemsStrong skills with debuggers, performance optimization, and unit testingFamiliar with Agile software development techniques, particularly test-driven development, and continuous integrationBackground in physics-based simulation, scientific computing, high-performance computing, or mathematicsBasic understanding of fluid mechanicsMaster’s degree in computer science or an engineering disciplineADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Willing to travel in support of launching and testing of hardwareWilling to work extended hours and weekends as neededCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Pay Range:Software Engineer/Senior: $160,000.00 - $220,000.00/per yearYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX
