Our client is actively looking for a detail-oriented and professional Accounting Assistant to join their team in Reston, VA. The Accounting Associate will provide hands-on accounting support to ensure an efficient and successful accounting function.  This position requires 3-4 years of experience combined with demonstrated experience in GAAP, QuickBooks, and financial analysis tasks.  Knowledge of Quickbooks is a strong requirement.

Job Responsibilities:  Accounting Assistant 

  • Prepare financial reports, statements, and documents in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Continually analyze, research and identify accounting, workflow, and productivity technology and tools to increase accounting and technical proficiency of self, others, and company.
  • Process accounts payable and receivables including coding and entering vendor and expense invoices, compiling supporting documentation and recording bank deposits.
  • Download statements and reconcile bank, credit card and loan accounts each month.
  • Prepare journal entries for accounts, fixed assets and depreciation. Ensure that vendor detail is complete and accurate for year-end 1099 filings.
  • Run monthly trial balance to verify that general ledger accounts are in balance. Analyze the trial balance and make any necessary adjusting journal entries to correct discrepancies.
  • Ensure that external documentation submissions and filings are accurate and timely.
  • Provide direction and assistance regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Identify expense reductions and present solutions to management.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience Required:  Accounting Assistant

  • 3-4 years of full-bookkeeping experience responsible accounting or full charge bookkeeping experience related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries through trial balance, including general ledger reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated expertise with GAAP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner.
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks, Word, and Excel. Experience with any other workflow and accounting applications a plus.   
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with a proven ability to troubleshoot and improve business processes
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional presence to work effectively with a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a keen sense of focus on producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Strong organizational planning skills with a high sense of urgency in meeting deadlines.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within a fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.

  • Able to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with consulting business and/or small business preferred.
