Compass Point Recruitment are proud to be recruiting for an established growing manufacturing company in Haverhill, for a Mechanical Design Engineer!

As a key member of their dynamic engineering team, you will be designing and developing high-quality, innovative, reliable, compliant, and commercially competitive products.

We are looking for someone naturally creative, who is able to think outside the box and provide innovative ideas consistently!



Your Key Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Designing robust and elegant, user-focused products for manual, semi-automated or PLC control.
  2. Creating 3D CAD models and 2D detail drawings of new parts, fabrications and assemblies.
  3. Creating clear and accurate technical documentation necessary for the specification, manufacture, assembly, testing and support of machinery throughout product lifecycle.
  4. Building prototypes in our engineering workshop.
  5. Designing and conducting practical functional tests, reliability tests and user trials.
  6. Investigating change requests using a thorough and methodical approach.
  7. Continuous improvement of reliability and durability to support best in class warranty.
  8. Providing engineering design support to the rest of the business.


Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  1. Degree educated in a relevant engineering discipline.
  2. Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role designing product or industrial equipment for small to medium production volumes.
  3. Excellent 3D CAD skills & highly IT literate.
  4. In depth understanding of draughting practice including tolerancing.
  5. Sound knowledge of MRP, BOMs and product data management systems.
  6. Familiar with design for assembly and design for serviceability.
  7. Previous experience of designing for compliance requirements.
  8. Analytical and logical problem solver.
  9. Must work well within a team as well as unsupervised, showing initiative as required.
  10. Excellent attention to detail and self-checking skills.
  11. Enthusiastic and highly motivated with a positive, can-do attitude.
