We are a luxury ultra-premium winery located in Rutherford California seeking a talented, driven, hands-on, and experienced Finance Professional to help propel our financial growth. Our Controller position will be reporting to the CFO and manage the day-to-day Accounting Operations and Payroll Department. The individual in this position must possess great attention to detail, strong financial acumen, high aptitude for technology and financial systems, and a strong desire and ability to work within a dynamic environment. This position serves in a leadership role in the Accounting Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and monitor the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, overseeing two direct reports a Senior Accountant and Payroll Manager
  • Oversee payroll processing utilizing Paylocity
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across several business units, with new projects coming in regularly
  • Support the CFO with Cash Flow Management, Inventory costing and reconciliations
  • Direct and coordinate financial planning and budget management functions
  • Work closely with the company CFO and Accounting team to ensure financials are kept up to date and work with CFO to prepare for financial reviews and tax returns with outside CPA's
  • Provide effective leadership to the team and cross-functionally
  • Continue designing and maintaining an organization structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives
  • Maintain an effective internal control environment
  • Provide excellent customer service with internal and external customers
  • Manage the monthly financial close activities, ensuring accurate, timely, and comprehensive financial reporting by preparing and approving journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and monthly variance analyses
  • Drive the development and implementation of strategies to improve accounting operations efficiencies, effectiveness, and scalability, including policies, processes, and system changes
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Accounting and/or Finance with 10 years general accounting experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Good attention to detail and good judgment showing logical decision making
  • Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Clear leadership capability including high ethical standards, self-confidence, and the ability to work well with other people at all levels
