POSITION SUMMARY: Under indirect supervision performs diagnostic psychiatric assessments, consultations and evaluation. The RN assessment counselor may also do physical and mental health assessments on persons being assessed for possible admission. Responsibilities include appropriate identification of service need and referral for patients seeking mental health services

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Registered Nurse license to practice in the State of Texas. 3-5 years experience in behavioral health setting. Reviews HWC at least annually. Maintains current CPR card. 8 additional hours training per year in regard to aspects of assessment.
Provides mental health and physical assessment services to persons from age 4 through over 65 in the emergency department, at the Pavilion and elsewhere; collects information from patient and other sources, consults with psychiatrist and other physicians, communicates appropriate referral options to patient and /or family and provides crises counseling if indicated.
