About the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems and Drexel University

Drexel University and the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems have a strong history of research and innovation, particularly in biomaterials and immune engineering, with cutting edge research for applications ranging from regenerative medicine to cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disease, among others. Emerging cross-disciplinary areas of development include neuro-immunoengineering and pediatric bioengineering. There is strong support for medical technology commercialization through the endowed Coulter-Drexel Translational Research Partnership Program.

The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems was founded as a research institute in 1958 and was among the first in the country to offer graduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering. In 1998, the School in its present form was created, and the undergraduate degree program was established. The School confers ABET accredited undergraduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering and MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Science.

Job Summary

The School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems at Drexel University (drexel.edu/biomed) invites nominations and applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Candidates from underrepresented groups working in the area of biomaterials/immune engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates who wish to apply must have earned a PhD degree in biomedical engineering or related field.
  • Candidates committed to leading multi-disciplinary, diverse research teams, teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels) and partnering with clinical faculty and industry.
  • Successful candidates are expected to have excellent research and academic credentials in biomedical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Candidates must be prepared to develop outstanding interdisciplinary research programs at the forefront of their disciplines and to lead translational research programs.
  • Candidates should also be eager to participate in teaching and curriculum development, and to advise a diverse population of students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
