Lead Systems Engineer (Commercial Ops)

Summary:
AutoZone is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our Commercial eCommerce platform team. Our Commercial business is a major growth vehicle for AutoZone, and technology is a key enabler of that growth. The Lead Systems Engineer will work closely with the business leaders, supporting key business capabilities and technology solutions of services/applications with deep focus on production operations, capacity planning and performance management. Ability to solve complex problems, provide technical solutions, identify improvements and work on implementing your recommendations managing the team and collaborating well with other IT teams and business partners will be the key qualities.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads teams in ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability of large-scale cloud and on-prem application & infrastructure.
  • Understands the systems/applications that his/her team technologically/functionally and works with the team to continuously support new features.
  • Inspect the current state of the system and bring innovative ideas to improve the operational efficiencies around the systems.
  • Support new features, scaling, automation and self-healing processes for sites and systems.
  • Ability to lead and improve upon Mean time to resolve and Mean time to detect on large enterprise applications.
  • Ability to lead the RCA of an issue working with teams and ensuring tickets are closed within SLA’s.
  • Work with offshore counterpart to hand over tasks and review deliverables.
  • Preparation of the shift roster and ensure we have planned resources to support the application from across various locations and timezones.
  • Collaborate and consult with the Architecture and Release Engineering teams to ensure the releases are planned with required support.
  • Develops leadership capabilities in team members and ensures a highly motivated team through coaching and mentoring focusing on accountability & ownership.
  • Oversees the scheduling, control, and progress of batch jobs and installation activities.
  • Develops trusted and open relationships with key business partners at the Manager and Director levels and works closely with and manages vendor partner relationships.
  • Coordinates between internal and external resources, ensuring effective communication between all groups and individuals involved in projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years total experience in IT development with 5 years in the retail industry with high volume customer-facing 24/7 online storefronts.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a SRE, supporting 24/7 applications and setting up monitoring and working with APM tools like Dynatrace/Splunk/AppDynamics etc.
  • Experience in the role of a leading team utilizing ATG, Linux/Unix, RDBMS is preferred.
  • Experience in leading teams working on MACH (Microservices, APIs-first, Cloud-native, and Headless) architecture using Java, Spring Boot will be beneficial.
  • Experience with developing and managing applications across multiple data centers and failovers is a plus.
  • Must have a contagious work ethic, including a high sense of urgency to resolve issues quickly, creatively, and efficiently.
  • Proven track record on monitoring, automating, and improving reliability/performance of large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts and designs to a broad range of people.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and openly communicate cross-functionally, particularly with Operations teams.
  • Familiarity or experience in frontend and backend application development and troubleshooting.
  • Release Automation Engineering experience working with tools such as Jenkins, Jira is a must.
  • Strong work ethic, high sense of urgency, driven, self-motivated, highly accountable with initiative and passion.
