Job Description

The Civil Designer utilizes CAD design skills to produce/prepare contract drawings using MicroStation 2D and 3D application software (InRoads, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D).  In addition you will interface with internal and external clients organizing assignments to ensure design budgets and timelines are met. 

  
  

Duties include: 



  • Incorporating survey information into design drawings.
  • Prepare drawings, including plans, sections, profiles, details, and sketches as needed to support project designs.
  • Planning and designing facilities, such as roads, railroads, and underground utilities.
  • Interface with Internal and External Contacts.
  • Plans, schedule, and conduct civil design work under the supervision of a Senior Civil Engineer.
  • Issue interim and final design drawings as required by project schedule.
  • Evaluate and incorporate comments to design documents.
  • Create as-built/record drawings.
  • Manage drawing files.





  • Minimum 10 years experience in delivering Site/Civil designs including site layout, buried piping and services, and site grading projects.
  •  Strong technical skills related to CADD standards and automation.
  • Post-High School education in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to prepare electronic drawing files within project standards, using 3D modeling/surface models, sketches, layouts, project instructions and notes.
  • Familiar with discipline specific data collection for internal use in estimating, specific to take-off reports.
  • Ability to establish close working relationship with project delivery teams, illustrating knowledge of Civil/BIM processes as they pertain to collaboration and coordination between disciplines.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of advanced drafting practices and be familiar with CADD principles (i.e., text placement and editing, layering, snap, precision input, etc).
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation is a requirement.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Exposure Adobe Products.
 In addition to requirements ideal candidate would have some of the following:
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil3D and 
  • Experience with Bentley Inroads/Openroads is preferable.
  • Exposure to Bentley Projectwise would be an asset.
  • 15 or more years of experience
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary team in multiple geographic offices
  • High level of organizational skills teams with a good attitude, strong leadership skills and excellent time management skills. 
  • Able to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment. 
  • Able to set priorities and manage change to meet the business needs and project schedules while managing multiple BIM projects concurrently.
  • Ability to establish close working relationship with project delivery teams, illustrating knowledge of Civil/BIM processes as they pertain to collaboration and coordination between disciplines.
  • Excellent verbal, communication and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail is a must.
  • Willingness to learn new software, products, concepts, techniques and help develop new practices and standards.
  • Person already residing a commutable distance from Oak Ridge, TN is highly preferred. Relocation assistance not provided
