Senior Estate Administrator

Bessemer Trust Boston, MA (Onsite) Full-Time
The senior estate administrator has direct account responsibility for every estate to which he or she is assigned, including administrative and tax responsibility. The senior estate administrator supports, as needed, other members of the department in the administration of their estates. The position requires estate tax expertise and a strong understanding of fiduciary and personal income tax.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Carefully reads and analyzes all relevant governing instruments including the will, trust agreements, and other documents that will affect the administration of a new estate
* Gathers all required information concerning the decedent's real estate, tangible personal property, securities and other financial assets and takes whatever steps are necessary to secure and preserve these estate assets
* Promptly raises cash necessary to meet estate tax, administrative expense, debt and distribution requirements
* Prepares or participates in the preparation, as appropriate, of federal and state estate tax returns, and ensures that these returns are timely filed
* Oversees negotiation and settlement of estate tax audits with federal and state estate tax agents
* Coordinates the prompt and proper distribution of estate assets to beneficiaries and funds all required trusts
* Ensures that Bessemer is adequately protected by securing an effective discharge as fiduciary through judicial or receipt and release settlement, as appropriate, with all interested parties
* Provides technical support and training to client advisors in the area of trust and estate administration
* Complies with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to: Trust policies and procedures; tax and probate court disclosure and deadlines; maintains an adequate document recovery program for estates
* Manages, supported by estate administrator, the preparation of schedules for estate tax returns, excel spreadsheets, collection of assets and satisfaction of debts and administration expenses, as well as many other estate administration duties
* Assists with the maintenance and oversight of nationwide will vault

Education and Experience:

* JD Required.
* 7-10 years of relevant experience in a family office, law firm or bank setting.
* Sound knowledge of Trusts and Estates and Tax law.

Skills

* Ability to exercise sound judgment, spot issues and develop appropriate and timely solutions.
* Excellent written, analytical and verbal communication skills, with ability to provide clear, concise analysis and recommendations on complex issues.
* High level of integrity and professionalism.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Securities licenses will not generally be obtained or maintained unless deemed by Bessemer Trust to be required in order for you to perform the responsibilities of this position.
