Cath Lab Tech - Cardiovascular

1. Provides individualized age specific care that supports physical functioning.
a. Laboratory data- ensures that all pertinent information is relayed to nursing/physician before, during and after procedure.
b. Pain Management - Alleviates and reduces pain to a level of comfort acceptable to the patient
2. Provides individualized, age-specific care that supports homeostatic regulation
. Intravenous Therapy- assists in the sorting and preparation of IV administration.
a. Prepares patient - procedural preparation, completes pre-procedure chart and gathers all necessary equipment for specific procedure being done.
b. Assists procedural physician / monitors patient vital signs and ensures procedural efficiency.
c. Oxygen Therapy - Administers oxygen and monitors its effectiveness
d. Respiratory Monitoring- utilizes ACLS guidelines for insuring patent airway and emergency airway support.
e. Skin Surveillance- prepares patient for procedure, including shave and sterile skin preparation.
f. Surgical Preparation - Provides care to a patient immediately prior to surgery and verifies required procedures.
g. Sheath Access Device Maintenance-maintains arterial and venous sheath devices/or manual assistance, and is knowledgeable of complications
h. Wound Care - Prevents wound complications and promotion of wound healing
3. Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports psychosocial functioning and facilitates lifestyle changes
. Active Listening - Attends closely to and attaches significance to a patient's verbal and nonverbal message.
a. Emotional Support - Provides reassurance, acceptance and encouragement during times of stress
b. Teaching Disease Process - Assists patients to understand information related to a specific disease process
4. Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports protection from harm
. Code Management: Coordinates emergency measures to sustain life
a. Fall Prevention - Institutes special precautions with patient at risk for injury from falling
b. Infection Control - Minimizes the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents
c. Physical Restraint - Applies, monitors, and removes mechanical or manual restraining devices which are used to limit the physical mobility of the patient
d. Surveillance: Safety - Collects and analyzes information about the patient and the environment for use in promoting and maintaining patient safety
e. Vital Signs Monitoring - Collects and analyzes cardiovascular, respiratory and body temperature data to determine and prevent complications
5. Provides age-specific, individualized care that supports the family unit
. Family Involvement - Facilitates family participation in the emotional and physical care of the patient
6. Provides care that supports effective use of the health care delivery system.
. Delegation - Transfer the responsibility for the performance of patient care while retaining accountability for the outcome
a. Discharge Planning - Prepares for moving a patient from one level of care to another within or outside of the health care institution
b. Documentation - collects and files pertinent patient data in a clinical record/procedure computer (WITT)
c. Patient Rights Protection - Protects the health care rights of a patient, especially a minor, incapacitated, or incompetent patient unable to make decisions
d. Technology Management - Uses technical equipment and devices to monitor patient condition or sustain life
7. Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in cardiovascular professional practice
. Participates in ongoing educational activities related to practice area and professional issues.
a. Acquires knowledge and skills appropriate to the specialty area and practice setting
b. Maintains a personal portfolio that documents ongoing professional cardiovascular competence
c. Seeks certification when eligible
d. Seeks constructive feedback regarding his or her own practice
8. CARDIOLOGY SERVICES REQUIREMENTS
. Allergy Management - Identification, treatment, and prevention of allergic responses to food, medication, insect bites, contrast material, blood and other substance
a. Anxiety Reduction - Minimizing apprehension, dread, foreboding, or uneasiness related to unidentified source of anticipated danger
b. Dysrhythmia Management - Prevents, recognizes and facilitates treatment of abnormal cardiac rhythms
c. Airway Management - Facilitates patency of air passages
d. Emergency Care - provides life-saving measures in life-threatening situations
e. Examination Assistance - Providing assistance to the patient and another health care provider during a procedure or exam.
f. Teaching: Procedure/Treatment - Preparing a patient to understand and mentally prepare for a prescribed procedure or treatment.
g. Transport - Moving a patient from one location to another
9. CARDIAC CATH
. Cardiac Care - Limits complications resulting from an imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand for a patient with symptoms of impaired cardiac function
a. Angioplasty/cardiac catheterizations- assists cardiologist and is familiar with all interventional/diagnostic equipment, supplies, procedures.
b. Bleeding Precautions - Reduction of stimuli that may induce bleeding or hemorrhage in at risk patients.
c. Bleeding Reduction - Limitation of loss of blood volume during an episode of bleeding.
d. Radiology- knowledgeable of concepts and principles of radiology exposure and protection/demonstrates ALARA
e. Circulatory Care: Arterial Insufficiency - Promotion of arterial circulation
f. Circulatory Care: Mechanical Assist Device - Temporary support of the circulation through the use of mechanical devices or pumps
g. Hemodynamic Regulation - Optimization of heart rate, preload, afterload and contractility.
h. Shock Prevention - Detecting and treating a patient at risk for impending
10. ANGIOGRAPHY
. Angiographic care- Limits complications resulting from contrast studies of the arterial, venous, lymphatic and pulmonary vasculature.
a. Radiography- Assists vascular surgeon/cardiologist and is familiar with all interventional/diagnostic equipment, supplies and procedures.
b. Bleeding Precautions- reduction of stimuli that may induce bleeding or hemorrhage in at risk patients.
c. Radiology- Knowledgeable of concepts and principles of radiology exposure and protection/demonstrates ALARA.
d. Circulatory Care- Arterial Insufficiency- Promotion of arterial circulation.
e. Circulatory Care- Mechanical Assist Device - Temporary support of the circulation through the use of mechanical devices or pumps.

Experience Minimum Required
• RCIS upon hire and/or ARRT credential.
Experience Preferred/Desired
• 2+ years catheterization and angiography laboratory experience
• Electrophysiology experience
Education Minimum Required
• Graduate of an approved radiology/cardiology program or Military equivalent program
Education Preferred/Desired
• BS in radiology/cardiology services or equivalent
Special Skills Minimum Required
• A working knowledge of all cardiology aspects desired.
• Computer manipulation, verbal and written communication skills, mechanical attitude.
• Ability to work in a collaborative manner.
• Make effective judgments and decisions based on objective criteria.
• CPR and ACLS
Licensure and/or Certifications Required
• NH State Medical Imaging License after December 31, 2018
• ACLS , ARRT, CPR, RCIS
