Job Description BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is currently recruiting for a Government Accounting Specialist Sr Principal to join our finance team supporting the Platforms and Services Sector in Anniston, Alabama with occasional travel required. While this is primarily an office position, occasional visits to the manufacturing areas are required.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Applies and analyzes accounting principles on contracts, costs, processes, practices and procedures as they relate to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) interpretations
  • Support financial and operational audits by examining and verifying accounting, statistical, or operational records and/or procedures of internal and/or external organizations to determine the reliability and effectiveness of financial and control systems, material assets, liabilities, surplus, income, expenditures, etc. (Financial Controls Framework and Internal Audit support)
  • Prepares reports of findings and recommendations to management. May evaluate and recommend improvements to business practices, processes and control procedures in accordance with regulations and best Federal Contractor practices
  • Supports system owners continued approved status of major business processes and systems required to do business with U.S. Government
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with DCAA and the designated Administrative Contracting Officer (ACO)
  • Prepare the annual Incurred Cost Submittal and support its defense
  • Participate in negotiation of final rates
  • Forward Pricing Rate Preparation and submittal - support of its audit and use in establishing provisional Billing Rates
  • Submittals of General Dollar Magnitude (GDM) and/or Detailed cost impacts related to cost accounting practice changes
  • Submittal, maintenance and defense of disclosure statements.
    Leading studies and decisions for changes in disclosed and/or established cost accounting practices
  • Support Finance leadership in relation to Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and Disclosure Statement non-compliance findings
  • Government Accounting and internal controls dashboards and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) completion verifications
Typical Education & Experience Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experienceRequired Skills and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with minimum 8 years relevant experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments under time constraints
  • Self-motivated with a bias for action, process/results oriented
  • Works with minimal supervision
  • Understand importance of meeting deadlines
  • Good planning, time management and organization skills
  • Problem solving and in depth research and analytical skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written
  • Have the ability to perform follow-up and corrective action plan completion validations against Internal Audit, Financial Controls framework, and DFARS business systems findings
  • Sound interpersonal skills used when interfacing and coordinating with all levels of site management
  • Advanced excel skills and sound knowledge of other MS Office applications
  • Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures, and applicable federal laws and regulations
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional and effective relationships with internal and external customers

Preferred Skills and Education
  • 10+ years related experience
  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • MBA preferred
  • CIA certification
  • Standard Cost Accounting experience preferred
  • Federal Acquisition Regulation, government contracting experience, Department of Defense experience, cost accounting experience and/or internal auditing experience
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access
