Associate Engineer, Procurement
Job Description
This is a position in the Catalog Engineering team within Procurement at Bath Iron Works in Bath.
The Cataloging Team’s primary function is to define material and maintain the BIW material cataloging system.
- The Associate Engineer in this position shall research, define, and input data into the BIW Corporate Catalog to support the Design, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain divisions.
- The Associate Engineer shall become familiar with Navy and BIW contract requirements pertaining to material used for shipbuilding and general maintenance of the shipyard. This includes working with Design and Engineering criteria such as Military Specifications, Drawings (Military and Commercial), Shipbuilder Specifications, Test Criteria and all documentation necessary to define and procure material.
- The development and maintenance of Material Selection Guides and Standards is also one of the responsibilities.
- Communication skills for this position are essential as the successful candidate will interface with various systems, department personnel, and any systems supported by catalog data.
- The Catalog Engineering Associate Engineer will be required to research and resolve issues in his/her assigned responsibilities.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- High school diploma required; Graduate Apprentice or two year technical degree preferred
Required/Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 5 years Structure or Hull Outfit design experience, or 7 years of experience as a first class mechanic in Structure or Hull Outfit required
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical procedures, standards, and work instructions required
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment required
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office Tools and JIRA, especially Excel and Access preferred
- Experience with Common Parts Catalog (CPC) preferred
