Provides mechanical engineering support for maintenance and capital projects within the Knauf Insulation, North America footprint. Provides guidance to the staff engineer(s) and designer(s) at the Corporate level and the plant level in ongoing improvement of their portion of the fiberglass manufacturing process. Successfully completes major capital projects as assigned by management by demonstrating good project management skills.


  • Ability to design and/or redesign mechanical equipment specifically in the areas of insulation manufacturing.
  • Provides technical advice to other departments as needed
  • Effectively manage Contractors and other Engineers for design, installation, and startup of equipment
  • Develops improved processes in the fiberglass manufacturing process to improve quality, reduce scrap, improve utilization of raw materials, etc.
  • Assists in start-up and de-bugging of new production facilities
  • Aggressively pursues new technologies or equipment that can offer a benefit to the company
  • Provides training for operators when new or improved processes are developed
  • Offers troubleshooting assistance on processes or equipment when requested by the plants
  • Assists in developing the Capital Spending Plan for each year for upcoming major projects.
  • Ensures that drawings developed within the group are entered into the Knauf drawing system and that appropriate updates are made to drawings and equipment documentation as needed
  • Develops/publishes standards and specifications for all equipment relating to the manufacture of fiberglass products
  • Educates other engineers on common engineering practices used in the manufacture of fiberglass insulation


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; and
  • Five (5) years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment


  • Ten (10) years of experience in industrial plant design and/or engineering; and
  • Background in project management

  • Ability to manage financial, material, and personnel resources
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to think proactively and provide creative ideas that will benefit the group

Physical Demands:

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Regularly required to climb/descend stairs and ladders
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms
  • Regularly required to wear a half mask respirator

Working Conditions:

  • Corporate Engineering personnel spend over 50% of their time in manufacturing facilities.
  • A good deal of travel (30%) is required for projects
  • Moderate noise level
  • Regularly exposed to a fast-paced environment
  • May be exposed to varying temperature changes and dusty conditions
