Senior Media Producer

Position Summary

Columbia Online is expanding to support a new suite of services and a platform for delivering online courses, programs, and experiences across all schools at the University. This new unit will deliver in-house services across marketing, recruiting, instructional design, media production, learner services and more. This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of education, strengthening Columbia's position as a global leader in the digital education space.

Reporting to the Associate Provost for Online Education and the Senior Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Senior Media Producer is responsible for working with all aspects of video and audio production, including pre-production, on-location shoots, digital editing, and processing for online and mobile distribution. The incumbent is a key member in the planning and development of media projects and assists with building and managing client relationships and scheduling.

Responsibilities

Media Production

* Directs all aspects of field video production for shoots, including lighting and multi-camera setups, and handles post-production editing and file delivery
* Determines software and hardware needs for the project and ensures all equipment and training are up-to-date.

Project Management & Post-Production

* Executes media project plans developed in collaboration with leadership, faculty and learning designers, especially around recording, edits, and delivery.

Research

* Stays abreast of new technologies and best practices for the creation and production of media services that improve and support hybrid and online course designs.
* Continuously monitors changes in technology to determine direction of future media servers, systems and applications.
* Develops and maintains documentation for best practices and established workflows for the creation and production of digital media and related assets.

Other

* Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4-6 years of related experience required.
* Experience with a range of digital video and audio technologies as well as traditional A/V technologies required.
* Experience with a range of cameras including DSLR, 4K, lens, lighting and microphones required.
* Experience with software and hardware for video processing, editing, online distribution, and web and mobile technologies, including Adobe Creative Cloud: Premiere, Media Encoder required.
* Experience with color correction, audio mixing, motion graphics and animation, including AfterAffects.
* Experience with digital video as part of an educational multimedia production environment required.
* Experience using Mac and Windows computers required.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to deliver presentations on related topics required.
* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deadlines required.
* A resume and cover letter must be submitted to be considered for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in instructional design or a related field preferred.
* Experience teaching face-to-face, online and/or hybrid courses in higher education.
* Demonstrated research interest in a field related to education, curriculum and instruction, or educational technology.
* An established portfolio of products for multimedia platforms and a deep knowledge of procedures and tools, from cameras to lighting, from compression to compositing, as well as a proven ability to think creatively about strategic service development are desirable.
* High level of organization in media management, metadata and archiving is desirable.
* Experience modifying and writing scripts and customizing media players for web delivery is desirable.
