Quality Assurance Nurse

Reports to:      Clinical Director, Nursing

This Quality Assurance Nurse position serves as a consultant to both management and employees on clinical and nursing related issues. The successful Quality Assurance Nurse acts as a resource and advisor to employees and managers.  The role listens, advises, and reports on nursing issues to the Clinical Director. Communicating needs proactively to the team, the Quality Assurance Nurse works maintains client files, prepares for audits and reviews a portion of the nursing documentation for appropriateness. The Quality Assurance Nurse maintains an effective level of nursing expertise, as well as business literacy and knowledge about Aveanna’s culture and its competition.

Essential Functions

  • Analyzes, reviews and reports on charts, charting trends, and quality indicators
  • Updates and coordinates with the supervising nurse and external clinical staff regarding changes in the patients’ treatment plans when necessary
  • Monitors compliance to policies and procedures including but not limited to clinical documentation
  • Resolves charting issues and recommend changes to procedures
  • Updates corrections on documentation after retrieval from appointed nurse(s)
  • Assists the quality department with surveys and audits as assigned
  • Assists with professional education activities to encourage professional skill proficiency for all agency clients
  • Participates as a consultant in the implementation of chart review tools, standards of care and outcome measures
  • Assists with quality assurance and policy compliance training programs and develops reference materials to resolve inadequacies
  • Develops, implements, and maintains systems to ensure effective and high-quality professional nursing care
  • Maintains confidentiality of all employee/client records and information
  • Acts as a coordinator, facilitator or liaison to committees, teams and outside organizations, as assigned
  • Provides information and education on quality and performance improvement processes to medical supervisory staff
  • Participates in performance improvement projects to increase high quality, cost-effective methods of practice
  • Required to identify clinical problem areas and inform/train staff in the correction of any deficiencies
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment, fast-paced and deadline driven. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, climbing stairs.
  • Getting into and out of a car when providing visit care, conducting supervisory visits or traveling with a patient.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations in the home or during transport. This may require physical strength, agility, and ability to function under stressful circumstances to evacuate a patient, to provide physical support to the suddenly weak or disabled patient, or to perform one-man CPR for a prolonged period
  • Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to communicable disease, household animals, latex, or other sources of allergic response and that cannot always be controlled by the employer.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, for a maximum of 16 hours per week.

Travel

No travel is expected for this role, up to a maximum of approximately 10%.

Required Education and Experience

  • Current state licensure as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse
  • Two years of home healthcare experience (or the equivalent in post-secondary education experience)
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • At least 1 year experience in quality improvement preferred or directly related field
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Two years of directly-related experiences or five years of related experience in a responsible clinical coordinator role is a plus
  • Flexible and able to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (including Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required in addition to a thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, human resources practices and file management systems
