Job Description
This is a remote position.
The CommonWealth Initiative (CWI) is looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial driven tax professional to join our team as a seasonal, independent contractor. This role requires a proactive professional who can build and manage their own client base while providing accurate, efficient, and high-quality tax preparation services. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to analyze their financial information, identify tax obligations, and prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses, and organizations. Exceptional customer service skills and a commitment to professional growth in tax laws and regulations are key for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file accurate federal and state tax returns for individual and business clients.
- Gather and analyze financial data, including income, expenses, and deductions.
- Conduct client consultations and interviews to assess financial documents and ensure compliance.
- Review and validate completed tax returns for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Stay updated on current tax regulations and pursue continuing education as needed.
- Actively pursue opportunities to build and expand client base.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Valid PTIN: Current Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) for the current tax year.
- Experience: 2-5 years in tax preparation or a related role.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with tax preparation software, and familiarity with Zoho CRM system.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel, and comfortable with virtual meeting platforms like Zoom.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to explain complex tax information clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related entrepreneurial experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the tax and financial services industry.
- Analytical Skills: Strong computational and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

- Equipment: Secure computer/laptop with stable internet access.
- Professional Environment: Ability to handle sensitive information securely and maintain a quiet, professional setting for virtual client consultations.
Compensation: CWI offers a competitive, commission-based compensation package, with earning potential based on your experience and sales performance.
