Management and Technology Consulting (MTC) is Stantec's industry leading management consulting team, recognized in providing asset and organizational performance, financial, economic, funding, planning, as well as business and operational technology consulting services to communities and utilities across North America. We partner with our clients to tackle complex problems and design fit-for-purpose solutions that address their unique needs. We are seeking a candidate to provide thought leadership, delivery of strategic projects, and to drive growth of our economics, fiscal impact, and strategic planning service offerings across multiple industries.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* This position is an external client facing and leadership position with our Management Consulting Team to lead our economic services practice.
* As a Principal and economic service practice lead within the MTC Team, you will be responsible for the delivery of consulting services to local governments and other agencies in North America.
* The successful candidate will:
* Develop quantitative models and work products, with no oversight, to support client business challenges across multiple industries for a variety of highly complex issues; as well as direct and train junior staff in these areas.
* Serve as a primary member of multiple teams at client meetings, including interactive use of analytical tools and facilitating workshops; as well as direct and train junior staff in these areas.
* Work dynamically with project teams to identify best-fit solutions to complex business, strategic, infrastructure, and operational issues, that involve elevated risk.
* Lead or advise the project team in interactive meetings with our clients to identify and analyze issues affecting their organizations and key stakeholders.
* Maintain and grow client relationships and lead business development efforts in responding to client requests, RFQs, and RFPs.
* Serve as an independent reviewer of analysis prepared by peers or junior staff to ensure technical accuracy and appropriateness of methods and tools being utilized as well as solutions being evaluated.
* In some cases, serve as the project manager for client engagements, ensuring delivery of high-quality services on time and within budget.
* Meet performance goals and objectives as assigned, with respect to client-specific demands, stated delivery milestones, quality standards, project management framework, mentoring of junior staff, and all required training activities.
* Support business development for the MTC team and support business development in other geographies. Lead business development strategies/activities for economic and related services.
* Engage with clients and potential clients to understand their needs and problems and apply MTC solutions, solution history, and personal solution history to help Stantec grow.
* Lead the delivery of strategic economic, fiscal impact, business case, triple bottom line, and research projects, ensuring delivery of high-quality services on time and within budget.
* Work closely with regional leadership to identify and create/incubate opportunities for economic offerings across each region and across multiple business lines.
* Recruit, mentor, train, develop, and deploy technical talent. Working dynamically with project teams to identify best-fit solutions to business, strategic, infrastructure, and operational issues, that involve elevated risk/complexity.
* Engage in the strategic planning of the MTC team, focused on expanding economic analysis services, and new service offerings.
* Maintain and grow client relationships and lead responses to client requests, RFQs, and RFPs.
* Maintain and leverage knowledge of water industry, financial planning, local government, regulations, and economic trends.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Experience working with, acquiring, and analyzing large data sets and performing large research studies.
* Working knowledge of and interest in local government services is required.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including quantitative modeling and analysis required.
* Proficiency with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro and other business systems required.
* Experience with additional data analysis tools is a plus, including but not limited to Access, Power BI/Tableau, GIS, SQL, Python, R, etc.
* Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
* Capable of presenting/sharing analyses in an interactive work setting while being able to make adjustments in a live setting.
* Self-starter capable of efficiently and proactively working independently as well as with a geographically dispersed team on multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong sense of Team. Always willing to step in and take on additional responsibility for the good of the entire Team.
* Strong attention to details as deliverables are open to public review and scrutiny.
* Willing to travel as needed. Travel may be up to 20%.

* 15 years total post-undergraduate working experience in municipal management consulting, economics, cost-benefit analysis, research/policy, or feasibility/impact analysis and/or working for public agencies in these areas.
* Knowledge of and experience with regional input/output modeling, triple bottom line and cost-benefit analysis, economic feasibility/impact studies.
* Direct work experience/history with institutions or local government agencies in economic/fiscal impact initiatives and cost benefit studies.
* Elements of project management experience, including preparing and managing project scope, schedule, team activities, communication, and deliverables.
* Experience leading and managing complex projects simultaneously.
