Controls Engineer (PLC/HMI Focus)
Wauseon Machine’s Automation Division designs and builds custom automation and robotic systems for the medical, automotive, consumable, and consumer goods manufacturing industries. These systems include, but are not limited to, assembly, dispensing, machine tending, material handling, and palletizing.
Our Controls Engineers (PLC/HMI Focus) are responsible for designing and programming the PLCs and HMIs for these systems from the ground up and integrating necessary technologies.

Core Responsibilities:
- Create new PLC/HMI programs, troubleshoot, and apply updates to legacy and existing systems and related industrial controls equipment online and offline prior to or during assembly phase.
- Integrate machine vision systems for inspecting and locating applications.
- Debug equipment on assembly floor.
- Participate in a team-oriented phase-gate process.
- Travel to customer sites for system debug and startup.
- Provide technical support and training for internal and external customers.
- Participate in Risk Assessment and safety planning.
- Maintain a high level of communication with weekly task list updates and reporting.
- Complete assigned project work per customer and Wauseon Machine requirements, on time, and within the project budget.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years’ experience programming PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls equipment from the ground up.
- Experience with various technologies, such as Servo Control, VFD Control, Smart Safety Programmable Relays, Barcode Scanners, etc.
- Experience with Rockwell (AB) and Omron. (Mitsubishi and Siemens a plus.)
- Strong understanding of complex designs and programs.
- Ability to rapidly learn new and upcoming technologies.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 365, and Teams.
