Repair Technician IIJob Summary:
  • Perform repair of medium to high-level test and measurement instrumentation and to assist in general lab duties as assigned.
  • Support equipment integration, calibration and build projects.
  • Lead or support test floor root cause analysis using various engineering problem solving processes.

    Perform electrical/mechanical build, test and repair on instrumentation equipment, components and material where work duties follow established standard work, specifications and instructions.

    Perform diagnosis and repair of precision measurement engineering test equipment within the GM test laboratories. Develop maintenance and repair procedures, with supervision to meet the needs of the customer. Use independent judgment, but can receive some direct guidance from the supervisor.

Follow the GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS) to execute the GM Proving Ground and Test Laboratory business plan.

    Major Duties and Function Responsibilities:

    • Adhere to all company policies and procedures

    • Occasionally required to drive GM owned vehicles on and off GM property for business

    • Coordinate and provide service for field troubleshooting and repair

    • Develops and builds instrumentation fixtures, cables and equipment as requested

    • Documents all repairs and schematics following standard work procedures

    • Maintain technical proficiency and effectiveness through various means such as self-study, local college and internal training programs as well as proficiency testing,

    • Interface with customers for items requiring repair or limited calibration

    • Installs and maintains instrumentation equipment or components

    • Perform other laboratory support functions as required in an efficient and orderly manner

    • Repairs experimental or prototype instrumentation products or components

    • Knowledge of Laboratory processes

    • Knowledge and understanding of IKC, General Motors and our Customers Vision

    Major Duties and Function Responsibilities:

    • Ability to read written instructions, reports, schematics, correspondence, etc.

    • Ability to write clear and concise information

    • Ability to solder and fabricate electronic assemblies, connectors, and circuit boards

    • Strong oral communications with team members and customers

    • Knowledge of basic mathematical functions, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

    • Knowledge of the following equipment:

    Computers & Windows software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access)

    Multimeters, oscilloscopes

    Frequency counter/generator

    • Organizational skills such as:

    Manage time effectively

    Adhere to scheduled deadlines

    Coordinate tasks and duties

    Prioritize work

    • Maintains good housekeeping and safety practices

    • Ability to mentor apprentices

    • Valid US Driver’s License

    Teamwork/Interpersonal Relationships

    • Create strong working/professional relationship with all team members

    • Contribute to the success and productivity of the department

    • Demonstrate professionalism when interfacing with customers in person or via electronic medium

    • Demonstrate a professional attitude at all times

    • Ensure the confidentiality of all General Motors data

    • Exercise good judgment and follow-through

    • Target areas in need of improvement and generate innovative ideas that promote continuous improvement

    Education Requirements

    Two years of college with A.A. degree in electronic technology or other technical program or minimum of four years commercial or military experience in the field of electronics or metrology
