HR Generalist

A Client in Downtown Houston is seeking a sharp and polished HR Generalist to assist their team.

The HR Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping to plan and administer important people initiatives, such as recruiting/staffing, payroll, compensation, benefits, and leave administration (FMLA, Workers’ Comp, ADA)

Top 3 Must Haves:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a HR Generalist
  • Must have demonstrated experience with full-cycle recruiting and favorable candidate selection
  • Experience responding to unemployment claims (multi-state), workers comp claims and medical leave requests/administration


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, relevant experience accepted

Main Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt staff, students and temporary employees
  • Develops and utilizes solutions to source strongly qualified applicants, both internally and externally, including creating and maintaining job postings
  • Builds networks within the student housing and related sectors to identify future sources of talent
  • Manages job requisitions of open positions
  • Manages internal and external job postings, including creating, posting, deleting, and updating
  • Prepares and reviews position descriptions and classifies accurately per FLSA standards
  • Reviews resumes and applications, maintains recruitment records, and manages professional communication with candidates
  • Conducts screening interviews to identify top candidates and conducts follow up interviews upon request
  • Guides and supports hiring managers to complete thorough evaluation of candidates, in line with job expectations, values, and all relevant laws
  • Confirms arrangements have been made for candidates traveling to corporate office for interviews and on-boarding, ensuring compliance with travel policy
  • Creates, obtains approval and delivers job offer letters with necessary accompanying documents to be completed and returned by candidate if the offer is accepted
  • Manages offer, pre-employment checks, and acceptance process and liaises with HR team and hiring managers to welcome new employees to CLV effectively
  • Sources outside suppliers to provide recruitment and employment services, such as temporary employees
  • Liaises with recruitment agencies, negotiates fees and places orders
  • Provides weekly recruiting report to Regional Executive Team
  • Develops and manages recruiting budget for Human Resources expenses, in partnership with AVP Human Resources
  • Processes new hires (i.e. generating offer letters, conducting background checks and drug screens)

Human Resources Administration

  • Assists in maintenance of employee files and records in electronic and paper form
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database
  • Gathers and analyzes data with useful HR metrics, like time-to-hire, and employee turnover rates
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed

Employee Relations/Administration

  • Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Comp, etc.)
  • Coordinates and organizes all medical information and ensures that HIPAA and Employee Privacy guidelines are closely monitored and effectively executed
  • Ensures that the workers’ compensation claims are reported and facilitated in accordance with applicable OSHA and workers’ compensation laws
  • Manages all administrative aspects of leave and workers’ compensation claims to include tracking hours used/taken and working closely with Payroll to ensure that pay for associates is accurate and correct
  • Works closely with staff to ensure that all relevant completed medical documentation is submitted for timely review
  • Maintains appropriate contact with all associates on leave and coordinates all aspects of return to work for associates on leave
  • Partners closely with all HR business partners on all leave cases and workers’ compensation claims, return to work modifications, etc.
  • Ensures that STD claims are coordinated with FMLA or general medical cases
  • Process unemployment claims

Payroll Administration

  • Serves as back-up to payroll administration, including: reconciling electronic timecards, processing payroll, distributing payroll checks to the villages, and/or submitting reports to Finance
