Job Description

The IU School of Informatics and Computing (SoIC) at IUPUI invites applications for a dedicated and dynamic Assistant to the Chair of the Department of Library and Information Science (LIS).

The person in this position will provide complex and comprehensive administrative, planning and implementation support to the Chair of the Library and Information Science Department. The position supports the Chair in the overall management of the department in order to keep the department operating smoothly by evaluating priorities, and by proactively assessing and addressing needs. In addition, the positon entails developing and maintaining a tracking system of projects and assignments that includes due dates for events and projects for the Chair and the department as a whole and organizing departmental meetings and events. The individual in this position will assist with the implementation and execution of marketing and student recruitment for the Library and Information Science undergraduate and graduate programs in conjunction with the Communications team and other school staff, develop the department’s class schedules in accordance with the Chair’s objectives and requirements, and coordinate, facilitate and act as a liaison for all faculty recruiting efforts in the LIS Department.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and two years of directly-related administrative experience.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

High level of initiative, accuracy, resourcefulness, ethics, dependability, accountability. Ability to be flexible and to adapt to a rapidly-changing, fast-paced environment. Be a motivated self-starter with broad problem-solving experience and diligent attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Exceptional writing and editing skills, and demonstrated analytical, organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple concurrent tasks as well as to maintain confidentiality. Maintain a professional attitude, while handling multiple concurrent tasks, interruptions and problem solving. Strong computer proficiency. Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff and students with diplomacy and sensitivity.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Remaining stationary for periods of time, utilizing typical office equipment including a computer for long periods of time, going to other campus buildings, communicating, observing, and moving materials for various classroom or event needs.
