CNS Fall 2024 Undergraduate Research Assistant, CNS (AY 24-25 901755)

Middleburysnowbowl Middlebury, VT (Onsite) Full-Time

We are looking for Middlebury undergraduate students located in the United States to work remotely on:

  • Databases, website publications including the CNS and NTI websites, fact sheets, and analytical issue briefs.

  • Geolocation of WMD facilities worldwide.

  • Development of country and entity profiles.

  • Collating images of missiles and other WMD-relevant objects while tracking sources and copyright restrictions.

  • Developing case studies of illicit trade and procurement based on court cases, etc.

  • Maintaining and providing content for a WordPress site related to trading compliance (export controls, sanctions, etc.).

Undergraduate Research Assistants will have opportunities to work on critical issues involving the proliferation of nuclear, chemical & biological weapons, ballistic missiles and strategies for their control, WMD terrorism, and space security issues. GRAs are paid on an hourly basis and typically work 10-15 hours a week.

CNS provides a range of research opportunities with various funding sources.

Individuals hired to work under Federal Contracts containing the FAR 52.222-54 clause will be subject to E-Verify.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be a current Middlebury undergraduate.

  • Be located in the U.S.

  • Excellent writing and analysis skills.

  • General knowledge of WMD nonproliferation issues.

As an Undergraduate Research Assistant, you will acquire on-the-job training with CNS experts and other leading scholars on nonproliferation issues. While contributing to ongoing projects, GRAs are also allowed to pursue their own research in related fields. The starting wage is negotiated based on the student's experience. The position is renewable contingent upon satisfactory academic progress and job performance.

Student Employment Eligibility:

Unless restricted by certain visa status, all students with an active status for the semester are eligible for jobs on campus. Students on leave or withdrawn are not eligible to work in student employment positions until the semester in which they return. If you are currently withdrawn or on leave, you are eligible to be employed in staff positions.

Some may be restricted due to financial aid status. International students (non-resident aliens) may not work off campus unless they have applied for and received work authorization from the United States government. (An F-1 visa does not give work authorization.) Off-campus work study positions are available only to U.S. citizens on financial aid with a federal work study component.

Students are not eligible to work remotely from international locations.

Hour Limitations:

All student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week in on-campus jobs during the academic year (this includes exam periods). The only exception is when there is a full week when school is not in session. Specifically: February recess, Spring recess, and full weeks of December or summer recess. During these time periods only, students can work up to 40 hours per week. International students: Visa restrictions prohibit international students from exceeding 20 hours of work per academic calendar week.
