Job Description

This is a part-time position that is eligible to work up to 29 hours per week as needed and arranged by the position’s supervisor.

Develops and executes programmatic events for Flagship program, managing logistics including room scheduling, hospitality, purchasing, and publicity. Organizes travel and accommodations for visitors attending Flagship events. Develops and implements outreach and recruitment strategies for the Flagship with the aim of attracting and matriculating students in yearly cohorts and achieving the broader goals of the Flagship program. Creates, maintains, and implements marketing and communication materials and strategies including email, newsletters, and social media. Plans and promotes events to increase participation, form partnerships with other university and K-12 language and cultural programs and organizations. Establishes contacts and lines of communication in departments, schools, and organizations on and off campus in association with high school guidance counselors, instructors, and undergraduate advisers. Assists in recruitment and management of student employees and ambassadors to facilitate peer-to-peer recruitment. Acts as important point-of-contact between Arabic Flagship Center on campus and main Language Flagship administration.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED and three years of office experience including one year of progressively responsible experience in a position at a university or comparable institution performing outreach and development work.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Strong customer-service orientation. Ability to work well with diverse clientele in a diplomatic manner. Demonstrated organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft platforms for e-mail, word-processing, and spreadsheets (Macintosh knowledge preferred). Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree. Two years of work experience in academic administration or higher education including previous recruiting experience. Knowledge of Macintosh email, word-processing, and spreadsheet platforms. Social media proficiency (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.). Familiarity/experience using with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop). Understanding of HTML for website maintenance. Database knowledge. Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands 

Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work environment; does require occasional air and car travel. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the individual is required to have ambulatory skills sufficient to visit various parts of the organization. Requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other equipment for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and transport marketing materials when traveling. Requires a great deal of mental concentration. Ability to drive preferred.

Salary Range  $15 - $18 per hour commensurate with experience
