Job Description

General Ledger Senior Accountant

For the accounting professional with a desire to be part of an organization where your work does not go unnoticed, come join us at Best Western Hotels & Resorts.  The role of General Ledger Senior Accountant accomplishes day-to-day accounting results by conducting moderately complex and varied accounting activities in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established procedures. You will perform more advanced or specialized accounting work and provide detailed analysis to identify, reconcile or explain variances and/or trends.

As our General Ledger Senior Accountant based in our corporate offices in Phoenix, Arizona, your mission will be to perform professional accounting activities by compiling, consolidating and analyzing financial data. Your attention to detail and ability to deliver results will be invaluable in this fast-paced, energetic and highly visible role.  Strong analytical skills coupled with an innate ability to interact with people at all levels within the organization will be essential in this role. Top candidates will have the ability to fulfill the following requirements of the role, while bringing the stated experiences and skills to the position:

Essential Job Results

• Activities may include reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts, maintaining journal entries and accruals, calculating depreciation and reviewing depreciation calculations and capital purchases, preparing trial balances or financial statements, and/or compiling and reviewing monthly sales tax returns and preparing income tax returns. Conducts accounting activities in accordance with GAAP and established regulations and procedures. Assists with period-end closings.

• Acts as a technical lead by performing advanced or specialized work requiring thorough knowledge of accounting theory and principles. Interfaces with external and internal contacts on more challenging accounting issues requiring extensive research, problem resolution and decision making. May provide training and guidance to less experienced staff.
• Interprets accounting/financial data by analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred. Predicts future revenues and expenses. Offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and/or assumptions underlying budget forecasts.

• Identifies and reconciles account variances, and brings any inconsistencies to the attention of management by conducting detailed analysis. Prepares explanations for items of interest. Makes, presents and defends recommendations for accounting related matters. Provides management with information for decision making by writing more complex queries and producing reports.

• Acts as resource in various aspects of the accounting and reporting system. Prepares and distributes required reports and/or payments for governmental agencies, insurance carriers, other organizations and management as applicable.

Skills/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of progressive work experience. CPA a plus.
• Minimum of 4 years related accounting experience with working knowledge of GAAP.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency in the use of automated accounting system; Workday preferred. Intermediate ability to write reports and queries.
• Detail oriented with good organizational and time management skills to balance multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
