Anticipated opening for the 2024-2025 School Year.\r\r\rMaryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners.As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD.\r\r\rThis is an 11-month position.\r

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

This position will work on both the Frederick and Columbia Campuses supporting teachers and staff to ensure the development and implementation of a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as the provision of an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To support the provision of a language enriched environment through the use of American Sign Language, printed word and visual supports to meet the varied needs of Deaf students throughout our school birth - 21. To ensure student needs are being met, the curriculum is being implemented with fidelity, best practices are being implemented and achievement gaps are being addressed. Ensure equity and unbiased practices are implemented in the classroom and throughout the system of curriculum and instruction.\r

POSITION DUTIES

Instruction: Provide\rinstructional models of best practices to ELA and social studies teachers\rthrough modeling lessons, mentoring/coaching teachers, developing and\rimplementing professional development, and staying informed of current trends\rand best practices for instructional methods. Provide feedback to teachers\rbased on observation, and student performance data. Implement the new teacher\rinduction program. Support struggling teachers. Monitor the implementation of\rthe Maryland College and Career State Standards and our ELA and Social Studies\rcurricula. Support teachers pedagogical best practices in closing the\rachievement gap, implementing equitable and unbiased practices. Oversees the\rdevelopment of and implementation of intervention programs as well as gifted\rand talented programming.\r\r\rCurriculum: Lead the\rselection of ELA and social studies textbooks, and curricular materials through\rfacilitating curriculum review committees. Develop and improve\rinstructional/curricular materials for courses. In collaboration with others,\rreview curricular materials for equity and bias. Enhance curricular materials\rto ensure diversity is reflected throughout. Work to develop new courses in alignment\rwith MSD expectations. Determine expectations for essential standards and\rcurriculum that must be taught and learned. Develop and design benchmark\rassessments to track student learning. Evaluate student performance data, teaching strategies,\rand curriculum materials, and make recommendations based on analysis. In\rcollaboration with others, review curricular materials for equity and bias.\rMust be able to clearly explain changes to the curriculum or instructional\rpractices to teachers, principals, staff and the community.\r\r\rAttend quarterly state briefings\rfor English language arts and social\rstudies, meetings are held around the state, and serve on state content area\rdevelopment committees. Collaborate with MSDE staff and other county content\rspecialists as appropriate.\r\r\rThis\rposition is 11-months.\r\r\rThis position reports to the Director of Curriculum\rand Instruction.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree required.\r\r\rCandidates must be eligible to apply for or be willing\rto obtain certification by the Maryland State Department of Education and\rmaster’s degree in curriculum or related field within a prescribed amount of\rtime. Fluency in American Sign Language and written English required.\rKnowledge of the Deaf culture, Deaf Education, and ability to teach\rstudents on different levels and with varying educational and language\racquisition backgrounds is required. Five years of successful classroom\rinstruction in either English Language Arts/English and/or social studies\rrequired.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree Special\rEducation, Curriculum, Deaf Education or related field, Maryland State\rDepartment of Education Certification; experience in leadership,\rcoaching/mentoring teachers, and developing and adapting curricular materials\rfor use by others. Training in bilingual pedagogy. Experience developing and\rproviding teacher training/workshops. Experience with students with additional\rdisabilities and knowledge of using\ralternate standards. Experience with various grade bands (eg. early childhood,\relementary school, middle school, high school). Knowledge of American Reading\rCompany (ARC) Core frameworks. Excellent communication skills, including the\rability to make effective presentations; effective interpersonal, coaching and\rorganizational skills; ability to quickly learn information related to content\rareas or grade bands that may be unfamiliar; ability to manage multiple long\rand short-term projects and tasks; ability to thrive in a fast-paced\renvironment; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships; ability\rto analyze and interpret data and prepare reports.\r

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
